After a productive afternoon with the coolant pressure tester I have now managed to trace the coolant leak which I thought was originally the aux electric pump..but now is certainly the plastic edge of the radiator at the bottom.
Question I have is when the new rad is fitted is it necessary to replace any seals on both the 2 thermos switches,as cant see any point in replacing either as fans etc work fine..its just rad that has worn .
Can I re-anneal the copper washers assuming that's how they are sealed or should seals be replaced...if so where can these be sourced
-
It's been a whole since I replaced a rad on an Omega, but when I did, I reused the original switches with no problems at all. Can't remember if they were copper or fibre washers, but whatever, they sealed OK on the new rad. :y

That's what I,m hoping for but want to be fully prepared especially as the bottom 1 looks a right pita to remove and reseal once rad is fitted.
Might just give the metal switch threads a smear of liquid ptfe to be on the safe side

Why make life sooo difficult ???
Simply swap them over whilst the radiator is out ::)

Never intended trying to fit them with rad in place.
Question was when I replace old radiator with new all hoses and switches will be removed from old rad to new ...wanted to ensure the seal on the old switches was sound when replaced ... :y

Best tighten them fully then :D

That's to say reusing the seals, if sound, is fine... If the car is a keeper, new sensor/thermoswitches are peanuts... So buy and fit new and forget about it :y
-
Peanuts it is then . ;D..car is not going anytime soon..Europarts here I come ::)

Last ones I bought were around a tenner ;)

Just trying to find somebody local who stocks them...Febi list just the seal ring 03083 but even though its pennies to buy on line postage for 2 small copper washers is over £12 >:(..not paying that to anybody

Never had a failure in running 6 Omegas for 12 years. However, had one fail on my Rover Streetwise, causing a boiling at MOT time.

Fully expecting old switches to come out fine...washers to be just slightly crushed..put back into new rad without any further issues...….but like to have all bases covered for the sake of a few £,s :y

That's what I did. It's likely to be the only time they'll ever be moved.

And me . . . .no problems so far :y

That’s my plan too as can’t see point in buying new switches when others worked fine but will renew both crush washers for £1-50 each
Just waiting for tad to be delivered now
