Title: Bearing worn but no play just a ticking noise
Post by: grifter on 18 December 2021, 19:43:06
Decided to have a look at the front bearing today, and general front end inspection.

On the driver side, there was slight play at quarter to 3, but not up and down, noticed the track rod is worn so that'll be that.

Then passenger side the wheel has no play but theres a speed related clicking sound as I rotate the wheel. I'm suspecting that's the bearing but there's no play. I had read this can happen i.e. there is no play even when it's worn. Has anyone else found this with a worn bearing?

Very common for a wheel bearing to tick, rattle grumble BEFORE there is any detectable play .
With the brake pads removed (to remove brake catching from the diagnostics) spin the wheel .
the tick, rattle , grumble from a bearing will get worse with time or increased speed .
not an MOT fail till play is noticeable or noise is really noticeable .

Warped discs and a bent backing plate will also cause a similar noise.

Removing the caliper and disc will focus the search.  :y
