Omega General Help / Hydraulic lock on a v6. Is it dead?
« on: 15 December 2008, 22:39:07 »
I drove through a 'puddle' yesterday that ended up being a bit deeper than I had at first thought.
Just as I got through the engine died.
I managed to get the water out of the big inlet tube  - it was literally brimful and took out the plugs and turned it over and lots of water pumped out.
It then started but it wasn't firing on all cylinders.
I drove home (about 50 miles) and changed the plugs and oil.

The right hand side bank doesn't work at all though.  I checked and theres a spark on all the plugs and they all have compression (between 13 and 14Bar) and I can see little puffs of petrol when I turn it over.  The plugs on that side though are black with oil and even a quick turn over seems to dirty them.

What could have happened?

I think my next task is to get the top off and look to see what I can but I'm no expert and I'd really appreciate any advice on possible causes and checks I could make to see exactly whats wrong.

Thanks a lot  :)

I 've suddenly developed a leak but can't see where it might be comming from..

It's the 3.0 V6, and the leak is on the right (as you look from the front) somewhere just above the aircon compressor, and is dribbling down over it.

There is a big watrer hose there but it is not that (would be too easy).

Any ideas what it might be, because I have to remove 1/2 the engine bits just to see where it's comming from..
I've got the ram air and aux belt off and it's not the water pump.

Thanks a lot.

After a little wait I eventually got my chip weheee

Right after I put it in I went round the corner to the local by-pass and was surprised at how much more torque there seems to be.  I was going to overtake so put it in sports moder and floored it and shot off so quickly I nearly buried it in the guy in front.. :P

Generally though there is a noticable increase in torque between 2-3000rpm which means it holds a higher gear a bit longer.  Also on steep hills you can really feel it, and when its about 3500rpm the pull is really good.

The engine does seem a bit rougher though with a definite lumpy idle (compared to before), and when you floor it it sort of roars and screams (albeit a bit of a muffled) - a decent exhaust would sound awesum.

It's difficult to tell, especially on an auto, but there feels like it's added about 5-10% to the torque overall, and the torque curve feels as flat as before which I like.  Would love to get it on a dyno.

I've only done about 200 miles so far and am hoping it will improve the mpg a bit, but I won't know for sure for another few weeks but I'll let y'all know.
