Hoovers,, buy a Henry.  Look at Professional cleaners use, they won't use Dyson or Shark it's either a Henry or some German make.

We found that Henrys were the only cleaners the window fitters didn't destroy in minutes. The preferred method for the ones that were, was falling out the back of the van on the way home from the job ;D

Considering the mileage covered, I would give it another couple of years especially if it's not going to be used much.

There's no point in only changing some of the parts.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid for it :y

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 21 October 2023, 12:32:07 »
Yesterday got an MOT pass on the black Omega.

Advisory for front chassis legs, both sides have previously been plated where the engine subframe mount point strengthening plate is. I think some time stripping all the underseal back to see what horrors are presented is required. I think the biggest issue will be if the leg is getting thin by the  steering box location.

I'd be more concerned about the rot spreading backwards along the chassis rails into the bulkhead and floor, which is a much more involved repair. While you're poking around with a screwdriver, check the horizontal fronts of the rails from under the bonnet.

Realistically, serious rot in any of these places is a car killer.

How many more times are we being told in t/v news and newspaper reports that 'X' was formally known as twitter.  :D
They do it to wind Elon up.

He changed it to X to wind everyone up in the first place.  ;D
Exactly, doesn't want constantly reminding of his mistake  ;D

There must be a masterplan there somewhere?  ??? :-\ ::)

I doubt there's a plan at all.

Omega General Help / Re: Alternator
« on: 20 October 2023, 11:26:49 »
It's not complicated, but is nowhere near as easy as an A40. Access isn't as good, there's more to remove to get to the alternator, and it's much bigger.

When I got in the car at about 21:15 there was a heavy wind blowing the rain around the river valley. Which is normal for the middle of October.

So if the RR was say under warranty and parked at the time.

Would they not sue the manufacturer? As mentioned it was not being driven at the time. The RR could have been a future call back fault that has not yet been identified.

Which will be Dieselgate all over again; a recall that makes your car worse. Don't Land Rovers us over the air updates which will save the dealers having to argue with you about not wanting it?

You might invalidate the warranty if you use the incorrect oil.  ::) :)

But he will invalidate the warranty and future use if he doesn't use any oil :y

A basic mower engine probably doesn't need fancy multi-grade oil, but using one that meets the required grade ought to work. Although I have a nagging doubt that SAE grades and motor-oil grades aren't the same. Americans; what can we say....

It was.

Were any white presenters included for diversity and inclusion purposes?...... ::) ::) ;)

I think that diversity, inclusion and equality equity only works one way?  :-\

Equity is the new equality. :-X

It's a shame.

It's where the phrase same same comes from ;D

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 conversion Worth it

Especially if attached to an old fashioned slushbox.
My Omega rarely sees a motorway and averages around 24mpg. Hence using the little C1 for most journeys.
Even the Boxster easily achieves 28mpg with its manual box.

And yet my manual 525 barely managed 25mpg on long runs, when the automatic Omega averaged 24mpg in daily use just like yours. The keys to good fuel economy are light weight, high torque at sensible rpms(that's half of where the BMW failure) and tall gearing(the other half).

Excuse the ignorance, but how can they blame the driver

You really don't understand car insurance, do you Tony? ;D

Here's a brief explanation:

the money in your account isn't yours; it's theirs, and any money you've already paid them for fantasy services wasn't enough.

A plug in hybrid is a total waste of piss and nowt more than a subversive way to get everyone to fit charging ports at home.

A conventional hybrid is practically a much better solution if only because it doesn't require an external power source in order to work.

Are you really saying that the only practical way of charging a vehicle's battery is by fitting an engine to do it? That just means you have a petrol-powered electric car with most of the disadvantages of both, yet few of any advantages.

Wonder why they didn't make the Maxi as a hatchback/estate type car?  :-\

Maxis were hatchbacks. Are you thinking of the Princess, which looked like one but wasn't?

Thunder night purple???

Who says Germans don't have a sense of humour ::) ?

Those triangular holes are interesting. What were they thinking. Perhaps the drugs were starting to wear off.

So whose insurance will be claimed on? :-X

The owner of the car that started it or the car park for not having sprinklers?

Any car is made of, coated in and full of materials that are easy to set alight, and very difficult to extinguish. It takes a considerable amount of well placed water to do that, and sprinklers can't manage it.

They're like the fire extinguishers placed in buildings; to aid you in getting out of the building if the fire has blocked the exits.
