Seems a lot of money for something you're only likely to use once. There's lots of bits to make it adjustable, for multiple uses.

Scrounge a length of scaffold pole, some box section or hefty angle for the feet, and some chain. That lot and a few minutes welding will easily do the job for a few quid.

It might be sensible to get an adult to do the grinder work ;)

A blown Chevy big block running LPG would give most truck engines a good kick up the arse...

Americans could buy Isuzu NQRs with small blocks. My old boss refused to buy us one.
Bastid of the highest order...

...And an idiot as the fuel saving and maintenance costs would have more than paid for it ::)

About the same actually, he did look into it. Mechanically NQRs are pretty good, at 400k miles, the only major mechanical failure the one I used had was a headgasket and radiator at about 300k. Bottom end, gearbox and axle were untouched. We had several, and they were all similar. It's the rest of the truck that wears out; the body, electrical systems and interior are pretty flimsy. But they are cheap. Import costs and registration paperwork, plus having to pay for it upfront ruled out a V8.

.....and there was me thinking the Lib Dems were a 'busted flush'  ::)

By-elections are never an indication of national trends. Sitting candidates use them to try and make a point, and the electorate as up yours. Both happened here.

Mine failed suddenly, so I need a pair too.

Although I was just going to buy the £11 ones and call it done.

New fuel filter is on my to do list on the VW, now I have VCDS software.

Glad it was a simple fix  :y

Is it necessary to go into the software to change the fuel filter??

You would hope not!

Should be a change and cycle the ignition 3 times for 30 seconds or so to re-prime the setup, I thought it was only Merc who required random programming for simple changes.  ;D :y

BMW have done that for years too, battery changes on the 7-series for example.

Given the cross member is forward of the chassis sections which relate to geometry of the drive train, no jig required just a bit of careful measurement.

And perhaps checking the fit of some of the more critical components before you permanently attach it.

It's all about weight  cost reduction and, therefore, saving money.

Corrected that for you.

Plastic inlet manifolds, engine covers and cooling parts have been common for years. Ask a BMW/Ford/K-series/Omega owner how reliable they are.

I've heard of bucket lists, is this what you're meant to do?

Does it eventually stop, or diminish when the engine is revved? Because that would point the finger at a cam follower

Omega General Help / Re: Check my logic - Ref Oil Cooler
« on: 30 November 2016, 20:52:26 »
I agree with the mechanic, and wouldn't have changed the oil cooler either.

Mayo on the cap and filler neck is normal. Wipe it off if it bothers you. You can unscrew the filler neck and fit the cap directly to the cam cover, which helps slightly.

If you don't have lots of mayo in the coolant and oil then they're not mixing. Which makes cooler failure much less likely.

Your coolant loss is much more likely to be a Heater Bypass Valve fault, or an expired hose. Thoroughly examine the engine for signs of the leak, bearing in mind you can't easily see much of the back of the engine. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The oil cooler is more of a time-consuming job than a difficult one, but there are a couple of things that could catch out the cack-handed!

May I add to your list, Keith?
Those stupid and/or lazy morons who don't know how to switch off those dazzling rear fog lights long after the fog has cleared.

Ron.

Plus the morons who feel the need to turn on fog lights at the first sign of drizzle.
They're the same ones who don't turn them off when there is a car behind them.

I've averaged 30,000 miles for 28years, and could count on my fingers the number of times I have needed fog lights. All cars should have another high intensity fog light mounted directly in the drivers sight line to ensure that the things are only used when absolutely necessary.

All cars should be fitted with these:

(Anyone of a certain age should remember how far you weren't able to see with them.. ;D)

7" sealed beams. They're crap, but easily replaced with a 7" H4 lamp. Which do work.
