General Discussion Area / Is it windows10 or my notebook?
« on: 10 September 2016, 18:27:49 »
Last week, it did quite a big win10 update.....like a couple of hours to do the update...which may or not be related to problem I now have... The update has changed the login screen and also the layout of the start menu (two things ive noticed)

Yesterday I noticed it doesn't completely power off when I shut it down.

I tell it to shutdown.....win10 says "shutting down" then the screen goes blank, which you would expect, but the power light on the notebook stays on and eventually go off when the batt runs flat (if Ive turned off the charger)

So, has my notebook developed a fault or is win10 now not shutting it down properly......anything I can check??

General Discussion Area / Afternoon out....
« on: 29 August 2016, 18:45:01 »
Went here this avro..... Mr DTM would have been in his element, as it was a 'steam' weekend and the beam engines were running.....altho it was incredibly hot inside....best not to go on such a warm day  ::)

http://www.croftonbeamengines.org/

I shall probably go back at Easter next year, when theres another 'steam' weekend when hopefully its a cooler weekend. I didn't realise to start with, but the £8 ticket you buy on a 'steam' weekend is a season ticket for free entry for the next 12 months  :y

Didn't fancy the job of the two boiler men, who were constantly peering into the boiler, checking the coal was burning correctly and taping the pressure gauges. They looked a bit hot and bothered  ;D

But as it was a nice sunny day it would have been rude not to of partaken of a bbq burger and 1/2pint  of cider from the bar (I was driving so 1/2 pint is the max I will have) and sit in the sun over looking the canal  :y

Nice afternoon out  :y

We had that this afternoon....

Result my £70 wifi router is no more  :'( Guess the phone line took a hit somewhere  :-\

Still, the brand new 'cheap as chips' router that my ISP sent me when I last changed ISP last seems to work ok  :-\

Just a pain that I now have to configure all the wifi devices to connect to it  :(

When Swindon is stuffed full!  ::)

But I have a question for the boys in blue....

Saw a Merc 4x4 today (unmarked) turn on its blue and two's to get round some standstill traffic, but it had a foreign number plate (maybe German, seeing as it was a Merc, but couldn't see). Is that allowed??  :-\ IE a foreign Police or diplomatic or high ranking official car allowed to use its blues and twos in another country? especially just to avoid heavy traffic?

And I'm glad!!!

Took my mum shopping for a new fridge this afternoon.
Two rows of fridges on display.....but only two that were 55cm wide and didn't have an ice box in them!  :(
Anyway chucked new fridge in the back of estate.....and away we went. :)

Unpacked the new fridge on her driveway.....now to take the old one out...

Old fridge must have weighed nearly twice as heavy....I picked it up only to put it down a damn sight quicker than I picked it up.....
So I dragged it outside and just managed to get in the back of my estate.

New....easy peasy.....picked it up easily and placed carefully down  :y

So my mum now has a working fridge again and on the upside, when I took her old one to the tip, the guy directing two long lanes of queues, let me queue jump to the front and another guy at the tip came over to help me unload it  :y

Wifi router works absolutely fine most of the time....

Plug in a power line adaptor into one of the ports (when its powered up) and it still works fine

However reboot the router with the power  line adaptor plugged in and internet access is a no no (even tho I have all green leds on the front of the router)

Unplug the power line adaptor and still no internet, reboot router with power line adaptor unplugged and internet is restored.....

Why????

General Discussion Area / Petrol mower
« on: 19 June 2016, 18:40:51 »
Was dragged out of my shed this afternoon, for the first cut of the year for probably 2ft high grass  ::) ;D

Started after a couple of pulls, like it usually does  :y and cut the grass...

But I did wonder about having a go at sharpening the blade on it....having acquired a bench grinder.

Now I seem to remember theres something about turning a 4 stroke mower over.....something about the oil in the sump ....

Is it you can lift it from the handle upwards, but not side to to side  :-\

I noticed a fax machine lurking in a corner of my 'office' .... ffs who uses fax machines these days!  ;D Tip fodder  :)

Who else needs a clear out.....and whats the most useless junk you have......

General Discussion Area / Leisure battery
« on: 05 June 2016, 17:55:36 »
I have a 110AH leisure battery, that I was about to put on charge (I charge it every 3 months, just to keep it topped up)
Haven't used it for over a year, but you never know.......

Its not a sealed one and I noticed the electrolyte level was on the min mark on 4 of the cells and just below the min mark on the other  two.

So, I need to top it up.....question is....is distilled water the thing to use??  Or is there a better alternative?

Was being nosey earlier on past cars I owned....( a bit naughty I know  ::) )

In order of ownership...

Mercedes SLK200 W reg ... not insured
Mercedes C220 CDI V reg ...  not insured
Omega 2.2 petrol/lpg 03 reg ...  not insured.

So I guess they have all gone to the scrapyard  :(

The SLK surprised me tbh, I bought that new, sold it 2.5 years later with about 15k on the clock...
The C220 had about 175k on it when I sold it, the omega 150k, so not too surprised at those two....

General Discussion Area / Win10 question
« on: 02 May 2016, 17:14:14 »
Ive managed to break it somehow..

Before if I had Edge open and then started another program, the new program (ie calc) used to open over the top of edge.

Now the new app opens behind Edge.....so to get to it I have to minimize Edge to see it....

Its like Edge has a setting 'Always on top', but I cannot find any such setting  :-\

What have I managed to do??

Did an online food shop Wed afternoon for del this afternoon between 2-3pm

Driver phoned me to say he was running late.....no problem...

He turned up with my shopping at 3.05pm.....again no problem...

But as he was leaving he said 'As I was late I wont charge for the carrier bags ( 7 of them ) and I wont charge for the delivery either'

Just got an email from the supermarket itemising my shopping with them, £4 (del charge) + 35p (carrier bags) discounted from the bill  :)

Moral.....try to get the shopping delivered on a Friday afternoon.....at school run time....when the traffic is going to be a nightmare  ;D :y

Six weeks of antibiotics and I should get an outpatients appointment in about 6 weeks to check everything is okay dokey  :)

Got a district nurse coming on Wed to check/change the dressing on my back but apart form that im fighting fit again  :)

Back to work next Monday hopefully, good or bad thing I'm not sure  :-\ ::) ;D
