General Discussion Area / Vectra rear brake pipe how to replace?
« on: 30 December 2016, 13:45:09 »
My mate has a vectra, think it's 03 plate. He has a leak on the rear brake pipe. Had a look for him and it is leaking right in the middle under the subframe tank area - the pipe that goes from side to side. I can just see the bit where it is soaking wet with fluid. He got the pipe and I had a go at trying to change it but no avail.

I said what we could do is leave the old pipe in, as it looks so inaccessible, and just reroute the new pipe from one side to another but even the join at the driver side is tucked away up the back side of the suspension arm and couldn't get to it.

Anyone changed one of these and is there a way to get to the join without stripping half the back end off?

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio Volume button iffy volume
« on: 22 December 2016, 15:55:45 »
Hi, I'm more used to using volume buttons on the radio that the steering wheel ones I now have on Omega. I've noticed that when I turn the radio vol down it either disappears very quickly or goes UP, yes up, and same when turning up, it either disappears for a split second or for longer, or goes down, perhaps up when it feels like it. Sounds like maybe a wee spurt of WD might clean the volume pot, does this crop up often as problem? Reckon probably dried out due to lack of use since the steering wheel vol buttons are available.

Omega General Help / Outside temp no reading
« on: 19 December 2016, 18:40:52 »
Hi

My outside temp display reads F_______oC

No temp seems to be displaying. Not sure what the F means at the start or if that is even to do with temp display, which is more to the right. I read in owners manual there is a problem that needs further investigation if it shows nothing.

02 plate 2.6 CD is the model in question.

I also checked for fault codes with pedal test, which gave constant flashing so no issues there.

While I'm at it is there a way to turn the blower fan completely off without hitting the big off button on the dash? The fan always seems to be on one notch. I sometimes use ram air with temp set at whatever I want when I don't need blower fan.

General Car Chat / Were sunroofs optional on Omega?
« on: 14 December 2016, 22:44:09 »
Just wondered as mine doesn't have one, more or less every senator, cavalier etc. I see has one, so thought omega would have followed suit, except police spec ones. Not sure if they were standard or not?

Kind of glad as they drain water into the sills and the roof rots out round them too.

General Car Chat / Cursa cutting out all the time?
« on: 02 December 2016, 08:27:02 »
Thought I'd post this here in case anyone is having similar problem. A close friend was having a lot of problems with their Cursa (!) where it seemed to be cutting out at the most inconvenient times. There didn't seem any rhythm or reason why (apart from being a Corsa!) it was also eating batteries. It didn't help that the car was only being used on very short journeys with all the fans and heated windows on (can you guess gender of driver yet?). Initially I thought this was why, couldn't figure out why it would cut out and restart though, this seemed like a separate issue from a basic flat battery. The car was eventually left with our local friendly car sparky for a good couple of weeks on and off. He eventually said that the problem seemed to be that the boot light was constantly on and draining the battery.

Now I do trust this guy he is a very good car sparky, and have known him for years but as I said didn't understand how it could cut out and restart if this light was flattening the battery. Maybe power was dropping too low for electronics, causing ECU to flake, and stopping for a minute gave it enough juice to restart. Not really sure. However if you have or know someone who does then might be worth checking the boot light is not permanently on.

It's an 09 plate model. Think it's 1.2 or something with 3 pot block.

This is to do with my senator that I am replacing front crossmember. Just wondering if you need a jig or some sort of body alignment tool when replacing it? Have cut off anyway as is my way with things! Vehicle is sitting on level ground although certainly not perfect, wheels are pinched in a little from when I dropped the jack a few weeks ago, thinking I should at least let it square off by pushing it back and forth. Thinking more that the crossmember keeps it all square only when it's been in a smash likely need body alignment checks. Any thoughts?

Pretty scary:

Although it seemed to hold out not bad considering the speed. Think there was a volvo 850 in there somewhere as well.

Omega Gallery / Omega 24v Work in Progress
« on: 25 November 2016, 11:29:28 »
Hi

Decided to start a work log of things I am doing/planning to do on my recently acquired 'meega. I have a word doc as well with all work needing done, parts required, things to check and anything else that crops up.

My list of parts required/things to do so far are:

Service Items:

  • Timing belt
  • tensioner
  • water pump
  • Oil
  • Oil filter
  • Air Filter
  • Anti-Freeze

Suspension parts:
  • Poly bushes for front arms
  • Tie rods front
  • Tie rod rear

Other parts required:
  • Vacuum pipe onto 3 way non return servo valve
  • 2 tyres

Things to check/do:

  • If adjusters for tie rods are seized
  • Thorough check of suspension/mounting components general condition and serviceability
  • Camber check to get an idea how far out it is
  • Flush and replenish coolant with new anti freeze (combine with timing belt job while changing WP)
  • General service
  • Change timing belt

If you see anything I might have forgotten then I can add it to the list.

Let the battle commence!

General Car Chat / Before I buy Help
« on: 15 November 2016, 18:52:14 »
Hi Guys/Gulls

I have just joined as am very keen to purchase a 24 v6 CD Omega Auto, it's relatively low miles, looks in good nick, verified miles and MOT, which is out to April 17.

I am looking for some pointers as for things to check apart from the obvious things. Do you have a guide on here I can go through? I'm an ex mechanic and run several other cars including have an old 3.0 senator and a few cavys too so got the mechanical know how, and "the feel" of the vauxhall way of making things! Omegas I've no experience with but I'm sure they are just senators with a lot more electrical gubbins and a v6 instead of ------ 6 :)

Hopefully I get it and can get a bit more active in here.

Ta for now

Newbie Welcome Area / Omega Owner Waiting in the Wings
« on: 15 November 2016, 18:44:35 »
Hi Guys/Gals

I've just joined up here in potential preparation for the ownership of an Omega v6 24 CD auto. I also own a couple of other cars, well 4 actually, not including this one. If I buy another that will be onto my second hand to count them all!

Got a couple of Qs to ask about what to look for when buying etc. so will post that in other threads.

Can't wait to get stuck in!

Cheers

Andrew
