Is there a 'How to' for the above? I thought I'd seen one but now can't. :-/
I think last time anyone asked Jimbob said he had taken it down to give it a polish and it would be back soon  ::)

Perhaps he's polishing something else, and lost track of time? ::) ::) ::) 8-) 8-) 8-) ;D ;D ;D
This thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1279736694/7 mentions Ronald McBurgers guide.

Thanks Andy, that's the one I've seen, but now cant find. :-/

You need to unbolt the TC, and remove it WITH the gearbox :y

Leaving it on the engine can damage the seal on the gearbox shaft...

That's it, I knew I'd read it somewhere. :y :y :y

I think sassanch's thrust washer pics will explain a lot

As per your other thread, I've done a few of these, I am more than happy to come down and help for the day  :y   And thanks very much for the offer, I'm about 12 miles SE of Swindon. :y

Yes, got that bookmarked already. I know there is an issue with the torque converter coming off, with potential damage caused if done incorrectly, either with or without the box, and I can't remember which. :y

Thanks very much for your kind offer James. It will probably be after Easter as I have a building project on at present. :y

If you have a sturdy workbench just stand the gearbox upright on the prop connection end and secure it to your workbench. Sturdy luggage straps or wire.  :y

I'll fix something. :y :y :y

As JV6 pointed out, we have to take the bell housing off, which is, apparently, the bit this stand would hold, if it is, as described, a 'Liftmaster Wide Engine Gearbox Stand'. Or is that incorrect?:y

Having no experience of these, can anyone advise if this will take an AR gearbox?

Omega General Help / Re: New guy with a couple of problems

I purchased a 2000 Catera (omega) 3.0 V6 which had a bad running engine and had not been run for 2 years. I found out that the 2 intake valves on cylinder 1 were bent. I ordered a new head set and 2 intake valves and put the engine back together. The car starts fine but misses slightly when at idle i don't have all the small black pipes connected as I can't find the one which goes to the silver box behind the passenger side head.

Anyway, the car runs ok but the lifters are very noisy. I have run the engine for about 20 minutes with fresh oil and it has not got any quieter. Should I try a engine additive to try and quieten them? the car sounds like a diesel.

Also when I remove the oil fill cap it chugs smoke/steam out like a steam train. It does not blow any smoke out of the exhaust and there is no oil in the coolant.
Any ideas?

Yes, try something like this:-

103360 miles on clock,
would it have to go into a garage to get that work done

Not necessary if you have a jack and axle stands.  Link is here.

I would recommend at least an ATF top up, and possibly an ATF and filter exchange. How many miles on the vehicle? OOF recommends changing ATF and cleaning or changing ATF filter at 60,000 miles.

My helpful hints.

Take your time. Make sure all the bellhousing bolts are off. There are some high up ones when you are underneath.

Make sure you have disconnected all the plugs on the wiring loom from the gearbox before separation from engine.

If you disturb the gear selector switch it will need adjusting. From memory an 1/8th drill bit. It tells you how in Haynes.

Good luck.  :y :y I'd offer to help but fortunately I am too far away ;D ;D

Oh and Finally be careful as the box full of oil is heavy, 90Kg?

Noted thanks :y :y :y
