Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Telematics
« on: 15 December 2008, 17:36:26 »
What's involved in the installation of one of these?

I know it has a seperate antenna connection and I presume it plugs into the Telephone prewiring but is there anything else? Is the CAN connection included in the prewiring - I assume it needs CAN to interface to the head unit for the controls????

Also are the units coded? If so can they be uncoded?

Thanks in advance.
Andy.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't find the thread!

1) Where is the best Earth / 0V point in the boot of a saloon and is there an easy connection point to this?

2) Where is there a permanent live somewhere around the dash / centre console area (I already have a telemute lead and a Nokia kit connected to the phone prewiring so don't want to overload that particular circuit), the supply lead has a 10 Amp fuse in-line (but the spec sheet says max current draw is 690mA????).

I know the rear accesory socket must be rated to 10 Amps (unless the calculation of W = V x A has changed since I went to school!  ;D) but it's on the multitimer so drops to 0 after 10 mins or so.....

Thanks
Andy

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Cheap HID bulbs
« on: 28 October 2008, 08:57:06 »
Does anyone know where to get either Phillips or Bosch 6000K HID bulbs at decent prices?

Think i'm going to put my original 4300K Phillips bulbs back in as intermittently the ebay specials won't strike. This can be either side at any random time so i'm sure it's not the igniters coupled with the fact that when the phillips bulbs were in they struck first time every time.

Nice job to do at night in the freezing cold!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / HID Bulb recommendations
« on: 16 July 2008, 20:30:22 »
Can't decide if my nearside HID lamp is beginning to fail, It looks slightly dimmer than the offside.

Anyway, question is what brand bulb to buy? There seems to be a vast difference in price between 'unbranded' Taiwanese and Bosch on eGay.
Does that mean a vast difference in quality / longetivity?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Parking Door mirrors
« on: 01 May 2008, 22:25:39 »
On the window switch / mirror control panel (in the armrest) of my car is an extra button that has a picture of the wing mirror with an arrow folding it in. I presume this is for parking the mirrors, which does not seem to be a UK option as it's not documented in the owners manual.

Is there a way to enable it? (Tech II?) or is it likely to not have the loom present?  :-/

It's an option that was enabled on Hans V6's car.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Missing Relay
« on: 01 May 2008, 19:56:31 »
Purely out of interest, what would the relay in position 6 (in the relay panel under the steering wheel) be for? There's just a socket in mine (MY2003), all I can guess is it's for the cars with variable delay wipers.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Facelift Fog Light bulb
« on: 29 February 2008, 21:33:20 »
Are the front foglight bulbs on a facelift H1? Bulb guide on here has a question mark and all the references I can find on the web only mention prefacelift........

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dell PDA - Speed Camera detector
« on: 02 September 2007, 11:38:00 »
I have a redundant Dell Axim X51v that I used to use ocassionaly for Sat Nav in my old car, as this car has Nav built in I was wondering if I could use it as a speed camera detector? I know some of the Sat Nav packages offer this function but was wondering if there was any standalone detector package?

Any ideas?
Thanks

Omega General Help / Windscreen to Scuttle seal

Noticed that the one on the V6 isn't secure in the centre. Any ideas how to force it to click in firmly without resorting to screen smashing methods?

Omega General Help / Suspension question
« on: 16 July 2011, 19:02:17 »
If I was to ditch the self levelling on my V6 Elite and go for something that offers better handling (though not harsh and hard) what route would be best to take and what would it cost?

MV6 shock absorbers and springs?
Bilstein shock absorbers and Steinmetz springs?

Omega General Help / 2.2DTi EGR Valve
« on: 03 May 2011, 19:21:55 »
Can you clean the EGR valve if it occasionally sticks and just how brutal can you be in cleaning it?

Failing that, there appear to be two versions, one with a black plastic cap and one without, is there a difference?

Links for reference - can be bought for much less!

Omega General Help / Dual Mass Flywheel
« on: 19 April 2011, 18:50:45 »
Just a general query really, what are the symptoms of one of these units failing? If, when the time comes, I need to replace the clutch on my DTi I would hate to find on parting the engine and gearbox that the DMF also is failing.....
