That has been her mantra for 35 years. Even though I drive like an old granny now, she still says I drive too fast.

Must say Maureen never commented on my driving one way or the other.The worst passenger I ever had for doing that was my mother.You could see her lean a little towards centre of car and quickly glance at the speedometer and then the comment "Going a bit fast aren't we?"would soon follow!

The best driver in my family was my Grandad. 90+ with cataracts. The less he could see the faster he went. Once my nan the rev limiter passed away, bless her, there was no stopping him.

I did once have to point out a contraflow system ahead as he was barrelling down the fast lane of the M25 at 95 MPH in his Volvo 340.

I learnt to drive in the one my Grandad inherited, so it was not unaccustomed to spirited driving.
