I'm thinking about building myself a general purpose box trailer.  Roughly 5' x 4' single axle unbraked with 750 Kg suspension units and 13" rims.

Now i'm well aware that there are plenty of places on 'tinternet and flea-bay that will sell me plans, but i'm too tight for that

Has anybody got any plans or designs or helpful advice on this matter?

Been looking into building my own trailer for the dingy I am building and the boat I would like to building the future and what with all the regs, etc, it is much less hassle (and cheaper in the long run) to get one second hand....

...dig deeper into those pockets T-Rex!!

Not an omega, But as soon as I saw your request I rember people doing this sort of stuff years ago.

Imagine an Omega towing an Omega Estate rear end.  That would be an interesting pic for a Photoshop wizard.

A trailer this size I would have thought you could buy one cheaper than it would cost to make one, places like B&Q and Halfords sell small cheap trailers.

I picked up a very nice all-purpose trailer from fleabay ... had to watch for a little while as there was a lot of rubbish.. but eventually a nice unit at the right price became mine..

Might be worth a thought if not in a hurry or not after anything specific .. ??

Yes, but they wont carry 1/2 ton, and they are nasty pressed tin sh1t and have stupid tiny wheels that look rubish behind an Omega

You need brakes then

Try basing it on a caravan chassis - There are a few older ones suffering from damp

I have built a couple of trailers, mainly for my Windsurfing kit.

The last one is a box, 1220wide * 3000long * 1200high.

The basic chassis is 50*75 box made to form an A where the axle goes across.

Bolt on a sheet of 18mm ply and theres the base, I then made and aluminium and 1.6mm galv sheet frame and box.

And yes i did use an isolation tape between the galv and ali!

750kg indespension units and 10" wheels with 6ply tyres will be fine.

I positioned the axel 450mm back from center and the nose weight is just about perfect

IIRC you can tow 750kg behind an Omega without it being braked so if you are working on carrying no more than 500kg you will have no issues, just pop the trailer on a public weigh bridge before you load it up just incase you do get a pull by Mr Plod

I've done a lot of trawling through google looking for free plans, but have only come across a few forum pages (mostly american and aaaustralian) with pics of work in progress.
Advice seems to sugest a 60/40 split for axle position

Different type of trailer but same subject...

Been looking into building a trailer....for transporting cars against purchasing a ready made one.

And the best bit about building your own is the Pikey van demolishion part  

Buy an old caraven and scrap it for the wheels / Base and Axle  :-/

Caravan chassis may not be much good - they are literally two chassis members and an A frame.

Only thing connecting the two main members are A frame at front and axle in middle

I suggest using Eibach springs on the trailer.
