I bought an Atco Admiral for £20 off eBay at the end of last year when my titan electric decided to set itself on fire.

The one I bought was hunting and the owner just wanted rid - Idiagnosed correctly as a gunged up carb. I spent £30 on genuine Briggs and Stratton carb kit and service items. It's been right as rain ever since.  :y

Now's a good time to look as the lawn neglectors will be just contemplating the first cut of the year  ;D.

You can't say things like that on here!  :o   ;D

I still remember the telling off I got for buying a crank position sensor that didn't come from a VX parts desk.  :o :o :o

To actually answer the OPs question, we're fortunate around here to have a regional motor factors - c5 branches in the local towns that between them either have everything you could reasonably want in stock or can get it same day from another branch.

Been going there on and off since I passed my test (*cough* 23yrs ago this November) and never had a dud part. One of the chaps at the Shrewsbury branch has been there since before I started going.

Sure, but hot day and engine hot when you stop it, oil pressure is zero but coolant not, that was my fear...

I did this job on my zafira B (same engine). Mine was losing coolant through a crack in the rear of the plastic thermostat housing. May be worth checking 😊

When mine got damaged on the Big Black Pussy, 2nd hand were £800 and new were around £2k :o

So repaired with Chinky Takeaway containers and Sikaflex until I can acquire one at a sensible price....    ....and that was 3 or 4 years ago, and still unable to obtain one for a sensible price!
Been quoted almost from dealers almost £450. they changed them from 2018 . I can find lots of pre 19,s .

I don't suppose you could fit a pair of 2018 ones?  :-\

Changed the rear trailing arm bush on the galaxy as the squeak was starting to grate a little  >:(.

Not a bad job all things considered, was going to do the other side but the BBQ was calling to me.  :y

Not a job I would want, but each to their own.  :y  :o

TBH the poor thing is absolutely battered. Never seen any love or effort lavished on it in two decades. I do what I can  :y

And tbh I find the job very satisfying - a leisurely couple of hours of an afternoon brightens the old girl up no end!

Headlamp sanding, polishing and lacquering. Not mine, OH's grandmother's clit. Hopefully the old dear will be able to see where she's going now!  ;D

EDIT: also serviced FIL's F10 520d for the first time in 4 yrs/15k  :-X. Engine oil was about 20% diesel  :o hopefully not damaged the poor thing too much!

Unfortunately, this was the first route I looked at, but.

1. They are £168 and
2. According to my local dealer they've been on back order for "bloody ages".

What I may do is swap the driver and passenger seat foams, given that the sides sitting nearest the centre console get virtually no wear and they are the same part number.

That's the issue really, the car has Tity seats which feel the same (to me) as my best mates 2008 mundaneo Tity X. His are top of the range I'm sure as that car has literally every option box ticked (former demonstrator). I find those equally uncomfortable on long drives.

The issue is the bolsters on the squab, they're fine for the first 30mins or so but then the outer side bolster digs into the back of my right thigh/base of my ar$e and gives me a dead leg.

Given there is space to the outside of the seat I'm debating  taking the covers off, splaying these bolsters out (to near horizontal on the outer side) then adding some more foam under the seat cover.

Probably a similar level of faff but for a better result

I'm only at the very start of looking at this Ste, but my initial thoughts are to leave the seatbelt as untouched Ford at both ends, which takes care of pretensioners. The only other SRS components afaik are the seat occupancy sensors. Something to be worked out but I'd hope to be able to take across the Ford items.

As I said, still early stage thinking   :y

General Car Chat / Omega seat swap - questions
« on: 29 April 2024, 20:50:00 »
While the galaxy does everything we need it to, I do have one significant gripe with it - the front seats. The driver's seat has some wear which makes it less comfortable than the passenger seat, but even that side isn't particularly comfortable.

I was thinking of swapping in some omega seats, specifically the grey cdx mouse fur seats as we're in my estate. They would match from the perspective of being manual with electric height adjustment, exceptionally comfortable (IMO) and the grey cloth wouldn't look too odd.in the car. Now, some questions...

- Does anyone know the seat back/squab width? I've done a search but cannot see a post on the subject.

- does anyone have any seats for sale? The ones on eBay I've seen are roughly what I would expect to pay for seats with a whole omega attached.  ;D

As always, any help gratefully received.

Took a deposit for the Zafira. Will be sad to see it go. Despite it being a PITA recently. ;D

Found a voucher for a local place to do an air con regass on the Galaxy.

500g out, 850g of refrigerant back in, no oil left in it either, 2g put in. Probably explains why the air con was cool, but not cold. Arguably should have done the cabin filter first, but no evidence of it being regassed in its (nearly) 11yrs I figured it was time either way.
