Oh ok, I understand shorting - thanks. I plugged the connector in underneath the expansion tank - are you saying maybe its not connected cleanly?

An old 77 Fluke?....ok I will have a look, thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
The replacement was brand new from Vauxhall. ( I thought it safer than secondhand although my wallet is sulking!)
When you say "shorting the plug", sorry but what does that mean?

Primarily I want to use the multimeter to learn about the car electrics - to be able to trace faults & such like. Your suggestion to go to Machinemart seems most appropriate. Ive seen the cost of the "Fluke" ones on-line, they're probably more sophisticated than I need.
I've never previously owned a car with these type of electrical concerns so this is a learning curve.

Any help & advice on the following would be much appreciated.

1. I have replaced the coolant reservoir/expansion tank because the "coolant level low" warning was on my dashboard display & I thought maybe it was the sensor in the reservoir. I also have a drain on the battery which was removed for charging & put back. Now on the dashboard it just says "coolant level" so I'm assuming it hasnt worked - what should I try next?
2. The drain on the battery needs to be investigated (I have already disconnected the notorious battery sounder). This is a new subject area for me, I need to purchase a multimeter & having looked on line, jeeps, I'm uncertain what to go for - there is such a huge choice & price spectrum. Any advice please? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Erm.....I can't answer your point about the Frontera but I have double checked my info this end in case I misread it & it does say X22DTH.

Omega General Help / X20DTH & X22DTH ?!
« on: 17 February 2012, 10:50:58 »
I've found a very useful link with diagrams of the engine compartment fuse/relay box but the diagram I'm looking at says X20DTH & the information I've received regarding the spec of my car states X22DTH. My car is a 2.2 litre which fits with the code I have. However, if I search this site using X22DTH nothing comes up. So, this has confused me (it doesn't take much clearly).. should the diagram I've been looking at read X22DTH or is there another engine type or is the code I have incorrect?

Jimbob - thanks very much, thats brilliant & very useful for the future. I'm a bit disappointed that there is no Bose fitted but it's not the end of the world. At least I know for sure now. Thanks again.

twiglet: Sorry, I have just spotted your message. Yes, I have looked in the cargo/boot area & cannot see a speaker in a black plastic casing so I think it is unlikely that the car is fitted with the Bose system. (Jimbob is somehow checking records to establish the original spec of the car) Ho hum! It's a little disappointing that there is no Bose sound but its not the end of the world & after all this is resolved I will be happy to simply have something to play CD's on.

Sorry for the slow response - the car is parked up the road because it won't fit on the drive (please don't!!) so Im back & forth.
I cannot find anything that suggests a Bose system is fitted & I therefore now think it is not.
Jimbob: Thank you, that is kind of you.The registration no now is .
Albs: Thank you also. I don't wish to put anyone to any trouble but if you are passing, I am in Halstead Essex.

I did read my pm's RobG & am just uploading some pictures which I will post shortly. What I can tell you now is that when I turned the stereo on it said"BOSE STEREO" on the dashboard display - is that a clear indication of it being fitted? Also, I have the original car pass (credit card size card with vin no etc) which says on the line:
Radio Type/Code = 0206/****.
The car is registered 04/09/02 2.2 litre diesel estate - 1 previous owner, 49000 miles......

Im currently on hold to Vauxhall customer care (30 minutes now!) to try to establish if the car was supplied with the Bose system initially. This may take some time ;).............

Hello to everyone.
New member JDX here.
Having purchased my new car I am disappointed with the electrical problems Im having with it from the outset. I have fixed the central door locking & the sunroof & the coolant level warning (when the coolant level is good) but have had no success so far with the cd player not working. Thanks to Dave @ DND for his advice - it seems my unit is u/s - the carriage is jammed & cannot be repaired. Ideally, I do not want to change the look of the centre console by putting in a different type of unit, so Im hoping to locate a replacement CCR2006. Please let me know.....thanks.
