Omega General Help / Rear subframe bushes
« on: 14 April 2017, 16:13:28 »
Just passing on some information and observations when replacing my bushes last week.after replacing these bushes and due to the rear springs acting on the subframe causing it to move backwards .this causes you to need to lever the axle forward enough again to get the bolts back in.once it's all back together you invariably will end up with the entire subframe a distance equal on both sides maybe but further back than ideal.causing undue strain on the rear u mounts which are prone to failure anyway.mine were very noticeably sticking out of the back than they should ,confirmed by undoing the bolts and even at the end of the small tolerance available too far out. So I decided to shim the bores of the donut bushes to centralise the bolts.3 lengths of 15mm copper pipe opened up worked a treat .re assembled and much better ,less strain on rear mounts but still not perfect.due to movement of the captive nut and lots of clearance to chassis.so final adjustment obtained by removing rear springs to make alignment easy(much much easier) ,finding a thin(same as or less then chassis metal thickness)that fits around bolt hole and chassis hole to remove rest of movement.held in place with a piece of adhesive aluminium duct tape.all back together and no strain on rear mounts. They even bolt up central to their slot .

Omega General Help / Auto gearchange
« on: 29 March 2017, 14:46:14 »
Just a thought .ive never been happy with the revs thats my 2003 2.6 changes at.when i bought it the revs went up to almost 4k before changing. And driving up roads at 30mph stayed in 3rd most of the time. I purchased a used gearbox ecu to try. Much better so after reading on here it seems my new ecu could be an original software version and my original was an updated one. However even though its better its still not a patch on my brothers 2.5 that changes up nice and early how i like it. Nearly as good as the old 3 speed gm in my carlton 2.2 which is purely hydraulic not electronic.so .my question is ? ?. What would happen if i fitted a different ecu ,say from a 2.2 or 3.2  or even a 2.5 .would it actually work or would it throw any codes . Or are there anywhere that can do custom maps .i drive the car as a cruiser and never rev it above 4k max .yes i know what your thinking. !. Put my bl,,,,y foot down and see its potential but each to their own! .

General Discussion Area / Omega coupe
« on: 11 March 2017, 19:02:33 »
I was wondering if anyone has built a 2 door version of the omega maybe using Monaro parts.how similar are they I wonder. Comparing this idea to a tried and trusted similar idea on the manta site where many people have built a mancona .opel manta coupe or hatch (or cav for that matter) but with a ascona front end. The google images picture of the silver b coupe does look 'right' for want of a better description.

General Car Chat / Double skin exhaust
« on: 25 February 2017, 11:49:43 »
Just out of curiosity has anyone double skinned an exhaust box ? I thought about heat tape wrapping or heat matt the rear exhaust box and then a layer of galv sheet around it. Would this make any difference ? . .?.this is after reading about original gm units which were double skinned. Never been happy with the rear box on mine.tried two different makes on and experimented with tip length but think it could be better .any ideas

Omega General Help / Spanner vs emmisions light
« on: 23 February 2017, 20:37:27 »
Hi am i right in saying that anything emmisions related would bring on the engine light which could be read and reset with my obd maxiscan tool and anything else faulty would bring on the spanner light.again which could be read and reset with said tool.after sorting the precat codes which are obviously emmisions related i once got a gearbox code for the prnd switch which i cured with cleaning it. Is this classed as emmision related? So what codes cause which light to come on?.mines a 2.6 .also can my brothers 2.5 be checked with same code reader. No faults to report on it ,10 monitors n/a ,no issues but spanner light never illuminates, even with know working. Bulb  in. Is this normal ?

Omega General Help / wishbone vertical mount types
« on: 31 December 2016, 16:23:15 »
hi. the subject of good and bad wishbones have been discussed as I see on here many many times.i have one question thou.i have changed a few of these in the past and never really noticed the type/style of rear bush. Bear with me ! . just last month after my brothers car started braking strange and pulling to the left by a set amount we traced it to the o/s arm vertical bush usual tearing of rubber.so I rang a few factors to see if anyone had an arm in stock to get it so I could fit it before Christmas. I went along to a very helpful guy in Huddersfield who had a pair of veco ones in stock. now here's where my curiosity kicks in. !    the new arms he had were both in sealed green veco bags but they were very obviously of different quality. the Lh one felt and looked like any of the non gm ones I had fitted in the past. ( sharp edges here and there, lots of very obvious spot welds and the same looking stepped rear vertical bush ) the rh arm however was quite noticeably heavier / thicker metal.seemed much better quality welds and paint.and the rear bush was welded continuously all around rather than just here and there. also the actual rear vertical bush was totally different as well.filled with rubber right up to the sleeve and and curved up to the top of mounting bolt sleeve.there was a large RH label on it too. I've since searched all available pictures of arms on google and for sale on eBay and cannot find any other arms with the same type bush for lhs.only rhs.one has just been found on eBay that looked identical but was described as ,first line, manufacture. I ordered it and it came yesterday. same nice heavy ,RH marker etc ,full bush ....?. so my question is. are these veco / first line ?? RH arms good and can you only find RH ones? ?.its the only arms I've seen with this style of vertical bush. not sure what original gm busehes look like or le former ones.
