Safe means it's missing the code.

If they're a matched pair the entering the code should make it work.

If they're not, then you have a really bulky coaster.

Assuming you dont have a tech2 to hand, and the pairing codes for both the original and replacement, the Headunit (with CD Changer), Screen and Telematics (on 2015) need to be kept together, as they are all security paired to each other.

And no code to enter on any component.  The pairing code can only be entered or removed by a tech2 or similar device.

If the replacement head unit and screen are paired already then it should just work.

Unless you've locked out the new head unit by connecting it to a different screen.

Start at the beginning.

So it originally had an NCDC2013 and what type of screen? Both paired together?

The replacement is an NCDC2013 and a CID, which are paired together?

If yours had a GID (see Display Types in Info sections of forum), then you need to check if you have the CID cable tucked up behind the screen area of dash - usually wrapped in masking tape, but not all have the CID cabling.  If you don't have the CID cabling, it's not hard to fit, but I'm reading between the lines that it may be a struggle for you?  The CID will work without it, but you won't be able to use the map display of the sat nav.

There is a guide how to get the dash out to change the screen.

Option 2, if yous has no sound, swap the lower rear board of the top unit over inside the NCDC.  That board is not coded, so can be swapped at will.  I get a feeling I wrote a guide, but that might have been NCDC CD Charnger board ;D

Ah, possibly ;D.  I know I've seen one ;D, And as you and I are probably the ones with the most in depth knowledge of the NCDC system, it would likely be one of us!

The little grub screws you put in where the extraction keys go?  They are purely aesthetic.  If you want them, they are bog standard grub screws with an allen head, available from just about anywhere.  Not sure of size, as don't have one to measure.

Glad you sorted the issue though :y

I must have a go at sorting mine out at some point. Several problems have popped up over the last year. CD changer cartridge is stuck and wont come out.
Radio seems to like going to LBC despite me selecting a different station, and sometimes selects NAV when I selected another option.
Could put the original with mono screen back in, but I like the colour screen.
Sourcing another one might actually be the best option I suppose.

Does the NCDC2013 paired to the GID work? Easy enough to repair the NCDC2013 paired with the CID if it does.

It worked fine when I took it out of the car about 6 years ago. Stored in a nice dry place ever since, so hopefully still ok.  :y

In theory its a case of swapping the vertical board in the existing HU CD Changer into the removed HU then slotting that into the car. I would just check with TheBoy in case i'm missing something there.

The bits that have to stay together on a NCDC2013 are:
Front board in top half of NCDC2013
Vertical board on CD Changer (bottom half of NCDC2013)
Middle board from CID

If NCDC2015, all the above, and the large board in the telematics.

I forgot the top board doh.

But you have all the bits to make one good unit.
