power loss and age.
« on: 03 February 2017, 22:18:03 »

(general car chat section)

Nipper missed his lift to work today and needed a lift to the train station pronto.

Powering up the hill with only one passenger, i was suprised to find a 16 plate fiesta not disappearing in the rear view mirror as quick as normal.

Didn't look that sporty?

There are some quick little cars out there now. My daughter has just traded her MINI Cooper SD in for a Cooper S, and there is very little between them power wise. Both rated at mid 140's top speed so can embarrass some older big engine cars in the way that they get there.
We have to be selective as to what we pick on  ;D

The Company Car type when your late Work do tend to be quicker of the mark over private ones.

I've found 500+bhp solo, embarrass quite a few big cars off the lights to 50mph.

I've found the same, although mine has a piddling 313bhp and a miserly 630Nm of torque. The 0-60mph is a laborious 4.6 seconds but hey, it serves me ok as my daily runabout.  ;)

I think quite a few owners of 'quick cars' are surprised by just how nippy my Signum is. Okay, so it won't change the rotational direction of the Earth, but it looks so ordinary that people expect it to be 'easy meat' away from the lights.

That's when you are entitled to a smug grin and a 'Yep, I'm still here sonny Jim'.   ;D :y

You can't beat a big old lump under the bonnet, the Merc is non descript apart from a little V8 badge on the grille, always makes me smile.

A real Q car will sit comfortably at 150mph so I've been told.

So, by my calculations, a healthy 307 BHP per ton/tonne. :y

Better than my Jag.....503 BHP to push a hefty 1900KG, resulting in a paltry 265 BHP per ton/ tonne. :( :(

Mind you, add the weight of a driver to both, and things would be closer. :)
