General Car Chat / Re: waiting for AA recovery
« on: 17 April 2018, 03:37:59 »
A mate of mine broke down in his kit car a couple of years back - in Glencoe. A local recovery driver turned up and took him back home to Staines in one hit, then declined a cup of coffee, turned round and drove back!
There's the thing, if the car is light enough to keep the 3.5t flatbed below 3.5t, then you can do this perfectly legally...
 :D

Add to that Recovery vehicles used to be Tacho exempt and its easy enough to do long recoveries in the old days... I did my fair share :-X ::)

Same here MigV6, the salt only ever comes out when we have chip shop chips.

It doesn't even come out when we have home cooked chips.
I have salt on just about everything, and 2 1/2 spoons of sugar in my coffee, and loads of cakes and biscuits, and unhealthy cereal for my breakfast. Been nice knowing you all  :(
Much like our very own Pikey Pensioner, Auto Addict. He has about 3m spoons of sugar in tea, and enjoys the occasional drag on a fag (:P).  But he is about 200 years old, and healthier than your average OOF member ;D

I’m sure you mean skinnier? ::) :D

Definitely alternator (or charging) related. Follow the guide as suggested

But some people have to avoid certain sweeteners for medical reasons... Mrs LD now has to avoid some and I have a friend who is allergic to artificial sweeteners  ::)

Let’s get things a little clearer about this chap...He was arrested on SUSPICION of murder - as long as his account of events checks out he’ll be ok.

If someone stepped in front of your car and you killed them you could be arrested on SUSPICION of Murder too 😉

Fully agree with that. Maybe Ive been lucky so far with autoaid, but the three drivers I had were all pretty good.

Think Service on Site cover your area for them :-\

Next time one of you are passing, feel free to demonstrate your knack for doing it ;)

No problem. I managed to lift my HiLux wheels ok  ;)

Mind you, I don’t need to jack that a million miles in the air ::)

All breakdown companies are only as good as the agents working for them ;)

Certain done similar with older cars STEMO :y, but think I struggle with that method on this, but will certainly give it a go next time :y

Biggest issue, as the hub is studded, the wheel has to be just right so all stud holes line up perfectly when lifting on (and not helped by my back due to the height being inconvenient), whereas most cars have had in the last 15yrs have used wheelbolts instead, so just lift onto hub, then rotate to line up holes (except the Rover, but they were so light, it was easy)

About time you grow a pair and get on with it! Wheels too heavy ::) ::) :D :D

Doctor finally arrived at 06:50, 17 hours after calling 111 under instructions of the District Nurse!!

Anyway, she was very apologetic and commented that it should have been marked as urgent, which I was told it had been... More lies  >:(

There are early signs of a possible infection so antibiotics just in case - incidentally, you don’t pay for medication issued by the out of hours doctor in this bit of the country. This may well contribute to how busy they are :-X ::)

As for the NHS discussion... I always sing the praises of the NHS in this area - The treatment in A&E and Maternity has been superb. The treatment since she was diagnosed properly has been phenomenal. But, as Entwood points out, the problem is the attitude of people. Too many managers - I fear (to sound a bit like TB  ::)) the only solution is to scrap it and start again!

She’s recovering well but had to call the District Nurse out yesterday (31st) because one of her wounds may be infected. Nurse wasn’t sure either and suggested calling 111 to get a doctor out to check and probably prescribe antibiotics just in case. She called 111 at 13:50 and here we are almost 12 hours later still waiting! :o

The worst thing is that somebody, somewhere lied and marked her case as attended by an ambulance so cancelled it. This only came to light after 6 and a half hours! She then had to join the back of the queue  >:( >:(

Still, yet another serious error in care provision to add to the case... If her first consultant had examined her properly 2 years ago she may not have needed the surgery! >:(

There are 2 different diseasal engines fitted to the Astra G .....
I had the GM 1700 lump. It had an electric powered pump with it's own belt (which initially broke on a regular basis). What you describe is what would happen to mine, alt light would come on & no assistance.

I think Margarets Corsa is an electric motor on the column
This a 1.6 Petrol......

.......in fact just to piss LD off even more, its actually a Factory fit Dual Fuel.  ;D

No it’s not ;) You know as well as I do that Vx never, ever fitted LPG at the factory ::) :D

Lucky bugger is already out of hospital  :o

This is great news! Assume no severe injuries then? Did it even break his foot?

As for the cause... Unfortunately everyone takes shortcuts every now and again (the ground crew could be covering their arses like anyone else will  ;) ) and these incidents are what highlights that.
Actually that was incorrect, had been heard from a mate of a mate, this is a relatively small village...

He was taken to St George's and has lost his foot :'(

How sad, although more like I expected...  :'(
