Title: "Lakes Meet" 18th-19th June 2010
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 07 January 2010, 15:40:02
Ok I have booked this site up http://www.dalebottomfarm.co.uk/contact.htm for Friday 18th & Saturday 19th of June.

Again I will be collecting a £10 cheque deposit which needs to be made Payable to    Mrs. E. Kitching   and dated 18th June 2010 the difference I will collect on the Meet Weekend when people have pitched up their tents/caravans (exactly the same as at Newent).
Also if you could put a note letting me know your Forum & Proper name so I know who is who :y

Example 2 adults camping in a tent will be £14 per night, £28 for the two nights. I will need a £10 cheque deposit (as soon as possible to ensure you have a pitch) then I will be collecting the remainder of £18 on the Friday or Saturday when you have pitched up :y

If you are wanting to go please PM me for my address details :y

For anyone wanting to use the Static Caravans they are £60 per night (if there is four of you, you still pay £60) please get in touch with me as these will be on the first come first served basis.

I have booked 20 Camping pitches to start with more can be booked if needed :y

Prices for Children:
Under 3yrs = Free
Under 12yrs = £4 per night

Dogs also welcome but must be kept on a lead.

I have mentioned that we mess with cars, but will not be getting oil etc everywhere, which is fine.

I have and will modify this post to answer peoples questions so everyone reading it won't need to read through the whole thread. :y

Daz, How many do cottages sleep, and are they nearby?

The Cottages and Statics sleep 4.
They both have have 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other two singles.
Cottages and Statics are around a few hundred yards away from the Camping area.
Pets can be taken but need to be kept on a lead :y
Anymore questions please ask :y

Just an up date...

I have been on the phone again to the owner asking some questions ;D

Anyway turns out that they had made a mistake regarding the Statics and Cottage availability and cost....
There are No Cottages available, plus only 2 Statics which I have booked. The price is £60 per night not £50 :(

Are the statics taken?  If not I'd like to reserve for me and the missus.  She's not too enthusiastic about sleeping in a tent and I hate pikey wagons plus I intend to bring Pen-gooin down for some fun on the lakes.

Otherwise I may have to look at hotels in the area :(

Don't think a weekend EA meet is going to happen though if York is going ahead in May too...

You know as well as I T.B. that was down to getting my foot caught down a mole hole and tripping up  ::)
I Think that all OOF meets in future should be subject to a thorough risk assesment( due to the current litigation culture) to prevent accidents like this occuring in the future. Large comsumption of Stella being exempt of course ::)

Ok. In answer to my own question, now i've read more thoroughly i see hook up is available & given the site may be otherwise unoccupied i'm guessing tents & caravans won't be seperated? :y

I read that hookups were available.

As to seperating vans and tents, some sites have specific hard areas for vans (cant see that on the satelite maps), but the site looks quite small, so even if that was the case, shouldn't be a massive issue?

Hope we are all together, as those bringing younger members who may need to be in bed at a sensible time tend to miss out on the evenings otherwise.

Hope LK can confirm soon :)

As appose to either side of the gas chambers ala stalag Burns farm. ::)

It could be if Daz has anything to do with it  :)

Sounds good. This year i've got limited holiday days from work due to hospital on 3rd feb & my classic car meet commitments. I'm definitely doing York in April but would love to do another Lakesmeet. Cumbria is my favourite part of our country, the first Lakesmeet was my first OOF meet in my old green 2.5 which is still running well & happy with it's 3rd OOF member (saw her today when i popped in for a cuppa) still sporting the OOF stickers & tax disc holder!!!
Anyway Yorks & Lakes will be the only 2 big meets i can make this year so when a list is started please add me & caravan with hook up.

Daz. I've lost your address so pm me please & i'll send you a cheque. Guy. :y

I read that hookups were available.

There are electric hook ups available up by the trees apparently but not everyone wants it

Touring Caravans and Tents are in the same field. The statics are around 300yards away

We were not altogether at Newent but the people with children took/take Priority to be at the main area if possible

Been asked another question about the site.

How many people will it take?

I asked if there was 30 pitches needed would they be able to accomodate us?
The answer was yes because it is a Camping Field they do not have marked out pitches. The only thing with that is the the electric hook ups are around the edge of the field, they have put the lot of us all in one area, so if electric is needed you maybe a little bit away from the rest but not above throwing distance apparently.
So I could do with knowing who wants electric hook up or not please :y
I will Pm the people that have paid deposits :y

Electric is an extra £2 per night, but please let me know if it is needed

I have booked 20 Camping pitches to start with more can be booked if needed :y

Prices for Children:
Under 3yrs = Free
Under 12yrs = £4 per night

Dogs also welcome but must be kept on a lead.

I have mentioned that we mess with cars, but will not be getting oil etc everywhere, which is fine.

I have and will modify this post to answer peoples questions so everyone reading it won't need to read through the whole thread. :y

Bit of a wildcard here but....

Can bring a 20 foot by 40 marquee if its needed BUT...

Will need 4 or more folks to put up.

Takes up a mahoosive pitch as far as site owners are concerned - may need a few coins in to cover the fee, if wanted??

Gives dry cover to either a) work on cars - probably 8 or more at a time? - or b)  great cover of an evening if it decides to tip it down.

Would also need a few hands on the sunday to drop and stow, once its dry....

PS - its from my (previous) scout group.  Normally, £150 per day but would be able to aquire for a token donation.

Daz - would your site person be happy with such a massive erection??   :o

Another York meet wouldn't go amiss  ;) ;) maybe for those who are able to rough it more than others  ::)
I'm going to contact Ian_D regarding a late summer/Autumn meet this year. The last two were a good crack. Other than racing on the airfield we could do whatever we liked.
   Watch this space!!! 8-)

Chances are you will only really need a roll mat and a sleeping bag, TBH.  Probably room in a tent somewhere for you to doss down, if you don't have one ...   ;)

Daz, I've been thinking about this...I'd love to make it. However, I need until about midday tomorrow to clear what I was meant to be doing on the 18th and 19th. Is it too late for me to express an interest? I don't want to mess up your planning. I also don't have a tent either  ;D
Sleeping in the car is fine with me, I've done it before  :y

Thanks to Elite Pete for offering to help out with tent sharing and even a lift from Crewe if I jumped on a train but it wouldn't be the same if I couldn't bring the Mig and the OOF gas barbie. Sorry to let you guys down with the BBQ but I'm sure you won't go hungry! ::) and hopefully I'll make it to Newent. Looking at Autoroute ... and being aware I'll have the "pikey wagon" (with Gas BBQ, Hob, Oven, Fridge .. :)  ) behind me.... and as I don't know the area /roads at all ... which is the "best" route ??

M6-J36, A590, A591         or     M6-J40, A66, A591

Any thoughts from "them that know" ???

:)

M6-J40, A66, A591 is the way the Pink One and myself were thinking last night.
From memory Windermere can be a proper car park on a nice day and being stuck behind a sightseeing coach can be tiresome too.

bob.dent - sorry you can't make it, hope to see you at Newent if not before :y.  If you did fancy it without the car, I'm sure lifts/tents/whatever could be sorted out, and I know we could find a BBQ to prop you up ;D.  I know there are still costs involved though - beer, beer, and, errr, beer ;D

Entwood - A66, the other roads are not pikey friendly.  Actually, scrub that, go to Sellafield, then Boot (where the psycho killed himself), up over Hardknnot and Wrynose....  ....just stay away from the M6 and A66, as I am going to use them ;D ;D ;D

Hardknot and Wrynose with a burger van. Now, that would be worth setting up a grandstand for the spectators.

Suspect the burger van would need a large dustpan and brush to help it back down. ;D

I know the A66 well from Scotch Corner to Maryport & while i agree there some ups & downs i don't know what you're all making such a fuss about. Considering the silly little cars some folk pull huge vans with even a 4 pot auto Mig would suffice if the box was used (manually) & not pushed, with no problems up hill or down dale.
I know with a 3.0 manual & a small van i've got it easy but i think there's a couple of doom mongers or wind up merchants posting B/S......? ::)

Ah, an Old Bag is working in the morning, so I won't be leaving until midday (picking her up from Gaydon at noon).

I'll also have a gayboy pikey-like roof box on its first outing, so had probably better drive at near legal speeds  :'(

Do they use the trick of not hiding on bridge, but on the road a few yards down from the bridge?

I believe there's a cambelt for doing on Saturday so she'll have something to keep Daz and Jaime in order with.

I'll bow to your more local knowledge, but initial thought is M40/M42/M6 Toll/M6 to avoid some of the friday afternoon chaos around Brum

While the traffic may be a slower up to Junction 10 on a Friday, I don't think it will be too bad until after lunchtime...... then again, famous last words and all that!

Never yet used the Toll but might make a change, would be £10 though for our convoy.... might have to tow the elite with the tractor for a few miles to recoup the capital expenditure  ;D

EDIT: Just checked the NEC website and the Gardeners World and Summer Good Food show will be on so M42 N/B from Shirley Junction (4 I think) may be slow.....

One to be aware of for all of us coming from the south.

There are some roadworks there John but no great shakes by the time you lot get there. I'll be going through tomorrow en route to Millom (J.36).
However given our home 20 we'll be going A1 to Scotch corner, 66 & over the M6 to Keswick!

It is still going - but he's now added a James Bond Exhibition by the old pencil factory that's awesome.  Largest collection of bond cars, tank, hovercraft, helicopters anywhere in the world that's well worth a visit. Mention my name for a free ice cream  :y
http://www.thebondmuseum.com/
Sounds good.
I was discussing it with Amigo MV6 today, looks like we may have to have a look while we're up at the weekend.
Anyone else fancy a mooch round sometime over the weekend?

I'm sure you all thought I'd dropped of the face of the earth, but I'm still here - albeit driving a VW now  :-X

Being a responsible and hardworking banker I'm playing golf at Appleby on Friday afternoon so I'll whizz across for a long overdue catch up afterwards.  :)

PS If my avatar is too big.....err..tough, cos I'm locked out of Photobucket  :-/

Great to see your still around Chopsdad :) just because your driving a VW dont be a stranger  :y

They don't. I remember getting bored, sat half asleep in the kids activity area in their, whilst a little short woman got overly excitable over coloured pencils (she likes her art)

I'll give that a miss then. Finishing off what's left of my rear SportContact 3's on Wrynose sounds more fun. ;D

Do we have access to a static unit/microwave? The reason i ask is at previous meets it's always been "eventful" trying to boil the volume of rice needed. If i have access to a microwave i can "cook" packs of basmati rice beforehand, let it cool & then make batches of my mushroom fried rice to serve with the curry tomorrow evening. Most of you hav'nt tried it but SP-32 Steve & the Zoks have. :y

Right I've got a selection of cheeses for the evening soiree as per OOF tradition.
I've even got some of that stuff for those in touch with their feminine side.
