£2300 bill for every household to decommission the gas grid to meet Net Zero.

So what next? Hydrogen instead? Yes, they are really thinking about that. Fancy buying a hydrogen boiler or cooker?

This government needs to go. Now.  >:( >:(

I'm glad I'm old. I'm going to spend my last years belching out diesel fumes and relaxing by toasty, gas heated radiators  :)

Yep I agree.  Any ideas?   ???

Thing is that the British sheeple vote Tory or Labour mostly, and those who aren't died in the wool Tory/Labour will vote for one or the other anyway....  ::)

So the chances of a truly reforming Govt coming in are close to zero, and even if it happened, the Establishment (Deep State/Blob whatever you want to call it) would quickly try to neutralise any serious reforms as we have seen with Brexit and Liz Truss.  :-\

By the time the gas infrastructure is upgraded to pipe hydrogen into peoples homes (if it ever is....), your friends boiler will be long dead and buried.  :-X

A combustion unit will burn most anything that's combustible ::)

A domestic boiler or cooker can burn most anything from ethanol to propane with little more than a change of nozzles.

I thought I'd look more closely into this hydrogen boiler question:

"A hydrogen-ready boiler is a boiler that can be amended to run on 100% hydrogen with a few small part changes and whilst all the boilers we sell are hydrogen blend ready up to 20%, they currently aren’t ready to run on 100% hydrogen in the future – there is a difference and the full hydrogen gas boiler is still in the prototype stage.

Although hydrogen-ready boilers are being marketed as a more low-carbon, energy-efficient alternative to gas boilers, it can be argued that the actual production of hydrogen adds to global carbon emissions.

These systems may emit less carbon during operation, but the process required to produce hydrogen involves the burning of fossil fuels.

It is predicted that at some point, households with hydrogen-ready boilers will need to get a hydrogen-ready gas meter installed, this will help to calculate running costs."

Not much different to any other 'energy saving' fad then...

Digging more stuff up to replace stuff that we've already dug up in the name of progress :-X

If we up are generation of electricity by wind ,tidal, and solar to a level that we have large excesses of electricity (when it's very windy etc ) then that electricity could be used to concentrate hydrogen .
Effectively storing the excess as a battery (hydrogen fuel cells)
this could then be used for heating, transport OR to generate electricity when there's high demand .

that would require investment, forward thinking ,improving infrastructure ,etc  ::)

actually... never mind , as you where   :D
