I have given up working on cars. I am the same age as STEMO and I suspect a bit younger than Lizzie ( so hats off)

I will change my windscreen wipers! Oh and key fob batteries saving 20 quid each)

Bit crap this getting old……..
Lizzie is the same age, Varche, all oldies together  ;D

Have you bought it?

It's officially the weekend. :)
No.
.

Change of heart Steve  or non helpful salesperson ?
Change of heart, Mick. I'd probably be creating more problems than I already have. Plenty of time to decide, despite Opti saying my time is limited.

Alright, John. 50 is far too old to be crawling around under an omega on a cold winters day. Get yourself a warm coat, a pipe and a pair of slippers  :)

I've been doing that for years. Much easier to pay someone else to do it, although I might have thought twice at that price.

IMO whether to convert a classic to EV depends on what made them a great classic (if indeed they were). So something like a Ferrari 512 would be sacrilege imo because the experience is all about that flat 12.

That's been my opinion for a while too. The twincam I6 in a Jag or Aston, or the big-block Mopar in an Interceptor is a major part of the appeal. Nobody ever bought a Mini or Minor because it has an A-series.

And EVs in general make more sense as small, low-powered cars rather than the £100k 2.5tonne behemoths.
Drivers in France will find that out soon enough. As well as imposing crippling taxes on ICE cars, Macron is also introducing a weight tax for EV's.

"Weight above half a tonne will be punished on a rising scale. Above two tonnes, the penalty will rise by €30 a kilo, adding about €1,200 to a Tesla X or €1,800 to a larger e-Mercedes SUV. That makes sense. Lithium, cobalt and steel do not grow on trees."

Sigh.......why is nothing simple..... :-\

And autotrader reckon this is a fair price. I reckon it's well too expensive

Having said that, look at the price of this  :o The nearest equivalent I can find

Both front doors have faded to Vauxhall pink. One rear door has had a flirtation with a yellow bollard. The infotainment screen is dead. The timing chain rattles on start up. It's doing a regen every 100 miles. Need I go on?

....but being a plate 66 plate car it has seen less revolutions of mother earth than the 16 plate French invader. 8)

How much do you want for it?
I've no idea, I'll see what they offer. It's trade in value on auto trader is around £3K, I'll be lucky to see half of that.

Remember to haggle....

£6250 with a full tank of derv and an extended warranty sounds about right. :y

Colour is good even though it is an 'ugly f*ucker' much like it's new owner.

What is happening to the Astra?
The astra will be chopped in. He'll probably try to get me to go to WBAC with it, it's certainly destined for the block. But I'll convince him he really wants it  ;D
.

Spend £30 on a valet it will look the dogs danglies.

What year is the mighty Astra?
66 plate, registered on 31/12, so one day off a 66 2017.

Ah. I see.

So, in effect, you will be exchanging  a 2016 Vauxhall for a broadly comparable 2016 frenchie.

Unless WBAC or the dealer will offer you around £5500 for your Astra (which they won't) I would struggle with the economic disparity.

Perhaps do as Rangie suggests......spend  £30-£100 on a proper valet to remove the pong of muttley and then enjoy the Astra for a few more years.

How much are you likely to get for the Astra?
£2.50
