General Discussion Area / Biomass boilers
« on: 07 December 2025, 12:54:22 »
Who on here as any experience of these?

Looks like our old oil boiler from 1999 is pretty shot, so not worth throwing good money after bad in order to get it to limp on for another couple of years.

We have a plentiful supply of wood, so commercial wood pellets for the biomass boiler would not be required. This would help with running costs.

Also, I believe there is a £5000 government grant available.

20 year old HRM Wallstar boiler that runs on oil.

It turns over for about 15 seconds before lock out and then a red light. Try again (repeatedly) and the same thing happens. No ignition. :-\

Plenty of oil in the tank, and you can see it being drawn up the pipe to the pump.

It was working OK a few days ago.

I'm wondering if it is the photo cell as I think it may be the original but could be completely wrong.

Anyone boiler savvy on here?

General Car Chat / In Autocar magazine letters this week.

Man buys a brand new Suzuki Swift. When he gets it home he is unsurprised to find there is no spare wheel.

However, he is surprised to find his new purchase doesn't have an emergency tyre replacement kit.

Contacts the dealer and tells them they forgot to put it in the boot when doing the PDI check.

They tell him they didn't forget, and if he wants the inflation kit that'll be another £58 please, Sir. You'll need to call the AA (or similar) if you get a flat tyre.

General Car Chat / New UK car sales for September 2025
« on: 16 October 2025, 12:03:43 »
........so for cars registered with a shiny new '75' plate.

Quite surprised by these figures when compared with September 2024.

Petrol.....141,308. ............Up 2.4%
Electric...72,779................Up 29.1%
Hybrids..47,883............... Up 3.5%
Plug in hybrids....38,308....Up 56.4%
Derv....12609...................Down 28.2%

I was expecting petrol to outsell milk floats by 10-1 and not 2-1.

Also, look at the number of sales for Hybrids and Plug in Hybrids. Does the £3750 government grant apply to these as well as 'full milk float' electric cars?.

General Car Chat / An Hour to Kill so took a test drive in a chinky MG
« on: 15 September 2025, 19:24:34 »
Mid-range model, so only 1 motor and a paltry 400 BHP. It went well enough, though. Wouldn't buy one new, as I imagine it will depreciate like falling off a high cliff. And there is also the government Luxury Theft Tax to consider, which runs for the first 5 years regardless of whether you are the first owner or not. Rachel from Accounts needs to raise this from £40,000 to something like £100,000.

I mean, how can you have a luxury tax applied to a Chinky built MG? It's ridiculous.

So, using Mrs Opti's computer as all I get is a "You are banned" message. I've removed all he cookies, but this time it still won't play ball.

Any suggestions, because this keeps happening on a regular basis.
