I was impressed with how the accuracy of the navigation system is with the GPS antenna disconnected.  Over 30 miles driven, and its still cock-on :)

Dead reckoning working then
Impressively well. Done a few more miles today, trying to confuse it by putting it sideways everywhere - an nearly caught out by some traffic lights round Ginger Spice's country gaff.

Only to find the noise is definitely still there.

I had it present for long enough to do further tests.  The noise disappears if:
any window slightly open
and door open
sunroof tilted or open
climate turned off
pressure applied to OS top of rear window and/or that area of roof.

Can it be cabin pressure in the car?

Actually, I'll start a new thread, as I have a feeling this might go on....

I still use the factory one in the S Class, but use the phone in the Bini/hire cars as they have Android Auto facilities.
Which uses the phone GPS.  Which then becomes a problem.
Not experienced any particular issues with it :-\

Phones have much better GNSS receivers than most in-car systems so work fine despite the compromised antenna.

Certainly better than yesteryear, but it's when the signal can't be picked up. Or when at a standstill, and the compass has a spaz, so thinks you are pointing another way, so gives a wrong route.

The car systems can get away with having no signal for a while and still work fine :)

I have found that whilst navigating city centres on foot occasionally, but not in the car...

Carried on with the retrofitting on the proper car.

I had collected/ordered the parts before the box went pop and the harness that was on back order finally arrived.

Boot lid, boot, and interior out on the drivers side wiring ran and back together so now has factory correct hydraulic boot lid closing.

Only apparent snafu is that the ECU for it is VIN coded so whilst everything is electrically ok, and the car is fundamentally happy with it, it needs coding to function.
Apparently, opening and closing the boot a few times has encouraged it to work. Which is nice.

Dropped the spare alloy wheel from the RRS in for a refurb, young lad did a great job on some others of mine when he was just starting up a few years back, now doing really well with his business, he's got his work cut out with this wheel it's in an awful mess being tucked underneath, SWMBO has manufactured a cover for it so should stay a lot cleaner in future.

Just done the HBV on the black car, I'd forgotten what a joyful and inspiring job it is  :-X .  Brand new genuine HBV out of a sealed GM labelled bag.... but who knows if it'll last as long as I seem to recall that the last genuine ones weren't great.... Fingers crossed!

New doesn't mean recent though, which can be a real problem with rubber and types of plastic. Is there a date code on it?

I've had so many problems with NOS genuine parts that I prefer to buy recently manufactured ones where possible.
