That is something I am worried about.  The light came on during a test drive after I refitted the old, temporarily repaired, unit, then went off. It came on twice again before I got the car back to the garage, but again went out.
......

Hopefully the emissions light is only on after storing a code after your temporary repair upset it and will go out on its own after a few higher rpm runs.
We want you to go out and read the codes now, tonight, otherwise this thread will come to a standstill until you've read them.   ;) ;D

No your cats will be ok they are not That fragile

Thanks, but even when I drove the car a couple of miles on 5 cylinders? :o ???

They will be fine. Takes more than that. Really need to read the codes rather than guess.

Thanks, I know I must do that :y

Thanks again for the reassurance :y

If I was back in my teens I would have gone out in all weathers, light or no light, even got under the car; nothing was impossible when it came to my A40.  But now I am an ageing biddy, suffer from joint aches and a bad back………..so sod it, I will not go out into the dark now, let alone anything else! ::) ;D ;D > ;)

Well, after arming myself with the OOF on how to do the pedal trick and printing off the sheet of error codes, I started the car this morning and, hey presto, the light went out with the others !! :y :y

So, thank goodness no need for the pedal trick and all now working fine.

Thanks to all who gave me advise on this and settled my nerves, especially YZ250 :y :y :y

Thanks.  A big weight has been lifted off my shoulders this morning so booked the car in for it's MOT, which will be after the two joints / flanges in the exhaust are re-gasketed after they were popping when I got underneath the car to adjust the handbrake.  So all is almost in order! :D :D  :y

Thank God, as I have said, the light went out before I needed to establish any codes :D ;)

So you don't actually know what caused it to come on in the first place ???

It really doesn't matter, probably just an old code that cleared with clean starts.

As VXL V6 said, the misfire would have pinged the light on. Code reader may show the stored code, even with the light off, but as said, not an issue now.  :y

........
when I got underneath the car to adjust the handbrake......

You get a much better balanced handbrake when you adjust at the internal brake shoes star wheel first.  :y

The light may not be a current issue, but without it, you're only guessing as to what caused it to come on.

It's best to spend that 15 seconds READING the code right in front of you and know for sure IMHO
EML could pop on again at MOT ,costing time and retest fee or worse

Unless Lizzie is one of those types that closes her eyes as she exits the motorway ON slip road and hopes for the best  :P
