How about this for a scenario.

Trump enacts his policies. Europe including peripheral UK struggles economically and politically. China isn’t able to send it’s cheap tat.

Along comes some guy, friend of Trump. He declares unity with Trump and something catalyses a general election and Renew get in. The something could be a Vladimir missile strike in NATO Europe. Or a cold snap and pensioners freeze to death. Or food insecurity or collapse of UK car manufacturing .

You're a cheerful soul this morning El Varche!  ;D
He usually is :D

January can't come soon enough.

Obviously Trump is going to withdraw the US from whatever ecomental nonsense that Sippy Cup signed up to. That's not Trump's fault, but rather a spiteful attempt to make the Biden Presidency stand for something. Same with escalating the war between Ukraine and Russia. It serves no purpose.other than to make Trump's job much harder.

As for the rest, presumably our responsible idiot thinks food comes from the same orchard as the money trees.

And if you don't think that cheap tat from China isn't a problem, ask yourself how it is that they can produce anything for a thousandth of the price anywhere else inspite of shipping it around the world... If you don't have a problem with any of that, then you really need to ask yourself why.

As for this petition, it's just passed 2,000,000 signatures.

Not too far from 2.4 million now...

That's almost 10 percent of the people who voted

I'm a bit amused by this.

Think back a few years, how would most people of reacted if such a petition to rerun the Brexit referendum had been started?

Its democracy. "We" voted this shower in, in the same way "we" voted for Brexit.  Man up, get over it, move on.  Don't throw your toys out like spoilt children because democracy didn't go your way.

Fair enough, but note that there was no such response to Liz Truss becoming PM...

And more people voted to Leave than voted Labour AND Conservative in the last election.

Brexit was a valid result with over half of the 72% turnout voting to leave.

This current shit show might have technically been Democratically elected in principle, but it was in no way a representative result.

That's the way democracy works in this country, suck it up. And let's face it, the Tories were a shit show.

I didn't vote for them either :D

The petition to reverse Article 50 got 6.1 million signatures and a 3 hour debate, so whilst the net result may not change anything, it is a way of voicing sentiment within the democratic process ;)

Well there were loads. Here's a quick selection from 2015-17.  I suspect that the same people who are sneering at the current petition were cheering on these kinds of petitions.  :)

 ;D ;D

If a government is elected on a set manifesto, then ignores it, that ain't a democracy!!

Besides which, without PR (which we desperately need, IMHO), this horrid lot would never have got such a majority in the HoC.

Those saying we should just "suck it up" should consider what the UK will be like by 2029. It'll be beyond saving. >:( >:(

We need to express out displeasure now!

Every government goes back on its promises, when they face the reality of actual governing. I thought you'd been around long enough to realise that. Maybe not  :-\

Plus, they could argue, in relation to tax, they said they wouldn't raise income tax, NI or VAT for workers. They haven't, although they might as well have.
Bitching gets us nowhere, I thought you may have been around long enough to realise that too. It's up to each of us make the best we can from what's available, moaning is counter productive.

I kind of agree............although, Brexit achieved 52 % of the vote. Labour achieved around 30% of the vote. But thats the system we have unfortunately.
I think the reason people are so angry is because of the bare faced lies they told and have shamelessly broken their election promises within weeks of taking power.
Remember them promising to fix the historically high tax burden the Tories had inflicted on us ?
Remember  Millibands fully costed scheme to bring down energy bills ?
They met with farmers and promised full support and not to impose any more tax on them etc. etc. etc.

And of course there were petitions, marches, court cases, deliberate paralysis of our Parliament,  and anything else you can think of to overturn the Brexit referendum.
They were all fully supported by Starmer, Lammy and most other members of the current Government.

Edit. Have just read the various posts above, mosst of which have covered most of what I just posted. Oh well, thats two minutes I wont get back.  :)

All of that is true, Albs, but we can't change the result of a general election like some banana republic. We're stuck with them, and it's just a case of trying to play them at their own game by undermining their authority.
We are are now considered dinosaurs, and I take a kind of evil delight reminding the Labour voters around here that they deserve everything they get. How do you think ex-miners feel about all the woke shite that 'their' party is enacting? Not good, I can tell you. But they, too, are dinosaurs.

We ARE a banana republic already. Democracy, like free speech, is dead – or at least on life-support. As for undermining their authority, well good luck with that!
