The reason for the "Protec Fuel Systems Convoluted In Tank Fuel Hose - 8/9mm Ends / 280mm Long" in my link is because the original in tank hose is shaped with tight curves ,which is difficult to achieve with off the shelf hose in such a tight space  :y

Hi Dave

Where does that fitment on the end of the pipe go or does that come off, is there a push on clip on the in tank pipe or is i tjubillee clips or those spring clips?

Had a look on the parts diagram and it doesn't show any type of clips I can see.

You need to spin the pulley by hand BEFORE you start it.

Ok, will do that first.

It did sound like something pinging against the water pump pulley.

Of course, nothing to say that it isn't coming from inside the waterpump.

Belt off and check it for any play or roughness, ideally from ice cold rather than just running.

Will give it a wee start up tomorrow see if I can get a better idea where it's coming from. Got between now and April before it goes back on the black so got some time for strip down and check (The car, not me!)

Is it a sticking valve lifter  :-\ not uncommon if the car has been left un-started

Don't know, it sounded round about the aux belt area. Very high pitched, but not loud really, almost like someone was tapping a spoon off something metallic. I'll start it up tomorrow and see if I can catch it a bit earlier this time.

Checked all the bolts for the water pump, steering pump and only thing I could find was a bit of play in the aux belt tensioner, considering it's still got tension on it, imagine it might have a bit more play in it when tension is off.

Need to remove it and check. Funnily enough I just ordered a new spare one last year, I also greased up the existing one the last time I did the belt. Still, a strange noise to get from a worn tensioner, would have thought it would be a more dry constant dull sound, if indeed that is the issue.

Omega General Help / 2.6 metallic "clink" sound on start up
« on: 08 January 2023, 15:07:37 »
Hi

So car's been lying up over Winter with the occassionally start up and drive about to keep things from seizing up. I noticed today when I started it there was a sound that lasted for a minute or two then went away, what can only be described as a clinking metallic sound from around about the drive belt area. It was hard to pinpoint exactly the area it was coming from as by the time I noticed the sound and started investigating, it disappeared.

Hopefully this google video works on here if not let me know and will upload it to another sharing site.

nothing been done on car recently, last thing done was belt in 2021, and everything seems ok last time I was in there.

I have one, but depending on how soon you need it, I am away until the 8th December. If you don't get fixed up before then, give me a shout :y

Should be ok, not in any rush, can give you a shout in a couple of Weeks and arrange something.

Cheers

Should have let her get on with it and then see if all fall flat on it's face, not many people I know here like her, don't know where she keeps getting this argument about Scots wanting a referendum, not anyone I know!

I found running a 10mm drill bit through the lifting eye made it much easier as you then have a bit of wiggle room lining up 3 things and a bolt that is going in at less than ideal angle and a working space designed for triple jointed long fingered contortionists .

You will never ever be using the lifting eye on these ages of car now and its realy only acting as a spacer .

Regarding the 2 stat housing bolts a couple of stainless washers will help if you dont get a new housing with the thicker shoulders t match what should be fitted as OE.

Good point, I se from the guide that it holds the oil tube bolt as well as the lifting spacer, so worth just removing the lifting eye and keeping it somewhere?

You have to remove the bolt to move the pipe otherwise you will never be able to remove the thermostat. Basically the bolt secures the pipe to the thermostat housing.

AC Delco Thermostats and Pipes are readily available from the US.
I had the bolt that secures the transfer pipe out ok, it was the putting it back that was a mission.

Hi James

I'm doing the TB, rocker covers, breathers, water pump, plugs etc. at the moment so wanted to change stat as a matter of course while I'm in there (Elite 3.2). I do have a spare brand new link pipe (OE), and was wondering about taking this one off as I done same job on my 2.6 and while the pipe was perfectly fine, I had a lot of issues getting the Bar steward bolt to start back in it's thread.

Now that you've mentioned the shorter flange on the replacement stats that's got me thinking (Worried  ;D) that it may be like this on my 2.6, although there's no signs of leaks or overheating on that so. Appreciate pointing that out, I'll certainly check this with a very careful eye when I'm in there.

Certainly something to think about removing all the backplate but not something I'd planned on doing. In all honesty I think the pipe should be ok, low miler and looks to have been kept filled with proper coolant, although should the worse case be realised then I do have a spare pipe.

As I said the only thing that gave me a bit of concern was putting the bar steward bolt back in due the issues I had last time. When I was running it in it seemed to go quite tight, quite quickly, and it never seemed to tighten firmly, so I was panicking it was not in place right and threads hadn't caught right.

I'd taken the bolt back out several times and restarted it but it never seemed to feel right, I don't know if maybe something was pressing against the side of it or thread had got nipped.

Thanks

Hi

Stat for v6 later model

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good one, as there are lots of different makes. What one have you used before that seems to have lasted well etc. Couple of the one's I'm looking at are Mahle (Really expensive), gates/Febi mid-range price, then the usual other standard cheaper ones like Dayco/Quinton Halzell etc.

just going by price would probably go mid-range like Febi, but interested to hear everyones thoughts on makes or are they all much the same quality?

Cheers
