Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Engine ? earth strap.
« on: 19 November 2016, 15:27:41 »
There is an earth strap on my car which runs from the bottom of the A/C compressor to the chassis.
The thread is a bit knackered where the strap bolts to the bottom of the compressor, so Im thinking of bolting it to somewhere else on the engine, such as one of the sump bolts.
I assume its an earth strap for the engine, rather than the compressor itself, so it shouldn't matter where on the engine that end is bolted to ?  :-\

Im sat at work bored, so decided to get the Omega service history file all in order and make a list of everything I have done in the seven months since I bought it. Sad I know, but I like that kind of thing.
Having done that I added up all the costs and found that I have spent near as dammit £1200 on it since I bought it in May this year !
The car was a nice example when I got it. Its only obvious problem was the cambelt was overdue.
So I ask myself, how the hell did I mange to spend all that dosh on it. It looks exactly the same now as the day I picked it up. ::)
Im sure STEMO will have an answer.  ;D

Omega General Help / Payen camcover gaskets.
« on: 20 October 2016, 19:02:02 »
Looking at the listing on All German site, it looks like I need two of these per bank, unless the illustration is wrong. Anyone have any experience of them, who knows one way or the other ?  The site says 1 per bank, but the illustration suggests otherwise.  :-\

Anyone know the GM part numbers for the o rings and sealant of the top of their head ? Save me rooting around in the shed to try and find out.  :)

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / camcover for 3.2 wanted.
« on: 20 October 2016, 18:55:03 »
As above, I need a n/s (passenger side) camcover suitable for my 3.2. A while back I was drying out the plug wells with a heat gun and while daydreaming I sort of melted it a bit. ;D
I need to do the gaskets on that bank now, so I want to replace the camcover while I'm down there. It annoys and embarrasses me every time I see it.  :-[ ;D
If you have one spare, please get in touch.  :)

It can be very interesting to read back over some of them. While searching for thermostat info, I came across this one and read it through from start to finish.
It brought back many memories, some good, some bad, bit I cant deny I felt quite proud by the end. Also realised I'm nearly 5 years older now, and wouldn't dream of doing that again in the middle of winter.  ;D

General Car Chat / Mahle thermostats
« on: 19 October 2016, 22:02:40 »
My 3.2 needs a stat and I know Mahle are OE suppliers. On previous ones I have fitted it was obvious that they had the GM logo ground off.
Cant remember where I sourced them from previously though.
Anyone know of a good source.
Tia. :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Indicator problems.
« on: 15 October 2016, 21:32:25 »
On the way to work tonight I noticed the indicators had stopped working. My first thought was that I ought to check the fuses in the morning. However as I was turning into work I switched the indicator switch and it came on once and then stopped.
Bad connection somewhere, dodgy switch, something else ?   :-\

Omega General Help / Cooling issue ?
« on: 03 October 2016, 10:10:11 »
Noticed this issue over the last few days as I have started using the car heater recently. With the cabin temp. turned up to supply heat, the engine temp gauge drops to around 75 degrees. Turn the heat down or off and the temp. gauge returns to normal.
Not sure why tbh. Stat/ HBV / heater system problem ?  :-\

Got this extra fused relay in the engine bay fusebox. Various wires attached. I have no idea what it is.  ???

Also have this lot behind the spare wheel. Possible towbar related ?

Not hugely important. I'm just curious.  :)

Omega General Help / Wheel alignment printout.
« on: 16 September 2016, 18:35:27 »
I took the Omega for four wheel alignment this morning. I was pretty pissed off with myself when I arrived, as I realised I had forgotten to bring the piece of paper with the WIM settings written on ,so I would probably get a "its in the green so its good enough" job.
Might have been best to cancel, but I had already had two aborted attempts at a different branch, due to all the staff being brain dead and compulsive liars.
Anyway, they did the job and I have the printout, but I don't really understand what Im looking at.
There are some figures on a red background and some on a green background.
Are these before & after figures ?  :-\

Thought it was a winter thing?  Ive had my worst ever case of it for the last few days. Banging headache, everything hurts from head to toe. Freezing cold one minute, sweating like a pig the next. And weak as a kitten. Most inconvenient, as I have a lot of things I need to do. ::)
Told swmbo last night that I fear the end might be near. She laughed so hard she was nearly sick.  :(   :D

Ive had dozens of these things kicking around in the past, but now I need 4 as Ive binned the locking wheel nuts, I cant find any anywhere.  ::)
