General Discussion Area / Last Nights Dinner - A Disaster!
« on: 26 July 2007, 11:55:10 »
Well, the Mrs picked up a hot cooked chicken from morrisons yesterday for our dinner.

Got all the veg and spuds cooking,

Start carving, and my Nice Sabatier carving knife, broke, handle came away from the fork, all forged metal, just snapped, ahh well.
At this point discover the supposedly cooked chicken is not fully cooked, still pink and bloody, AAARRGGH

Now what we do for tea, well the mrs nips out to the chippt to buy fish to go with the dinner!

We eat. Fine, but im fuming inside.

Ring up Morrisons, and ask for the manager, fob off phone answerer cant get rid of the call fast enough when I tell her its about 1/2 cooked chicken and food poisoning!
Very apologetic manager, grovells massively, and we settle on a refund and some compensation, he didnt want the press informed, and environmental health!

Dug out my Boots receipt for the knives, no mention of the 20 year guarantee on the 9 year old receipt! So in I wander today, got a young girl 1st of all, she moved me to her supervisor, who heard the story, and moved me onto his supervisor.... Who said
Ive got a set of these, doubt I could find my receipt!  Do you want that as cash or on your card!  I said do you take inflation into account, she wasnt sure if I was joking for a min, so told her i was joking, took my cash and All was well!

General Discussion Area / MOT Day tomorrow
« on: 12 July 2007, 09:49:19 »
Well, tonight I will drop the car off with my mechanic for its mot
Question is, the water leak is back, although not half as bad as it was. Is that a failure?
He stripped it back a lot last time, I know he is short of time, so don't know if he will fancy opening her up again :(
My spanner twirling is abysmal, as anyone who watched me drop the cdx off axle stands at the lakes can confirm  :-[
So there may be a plea for help soon  :'(
I Think everything else is ok, just need to change my blown HID bulb, Elite Pete has lent me one to get through this, while I order some new ones.

Fingers crossed!

General Discussion Area / Mice
« on: 10 July 2007, 13:50:25 »
Mice, not ones on dangly wires connected to a pc, but real live ones.

Seem to have a few, kept 'emselves to 'emselves outside, traps down, catch a few fine.

However, started hearing em in the ceilings :(

Tempted to have a go at the electronic rodent repellers, anyone tried em?  good or bad?

Before anyone suggests it, we have a (rather useless) cat.

He caught one the other day, wandered in with it attached to my mouse trap!, 'yeah cheers, worked hard there tiggy!'

General Discussion Area / Very strange noise from a Punto....
« on: 02 July 2007, 09:38:20 »
Working from home today.
Woman across the road as a W reg Punto, it goes out for many 5 minute periods a day.
She has just come home, and the car was making a loud noise, which I can only describe as the noise wipers make on a dry screen!

Any ideas?

For futher info I suspect a totally unmaintained car, the shock on her face last year when she discovered cars need mot's!

General Discussion Area / Friendly Meega Drivers
« on: 02 July 2007, 08:48:44 »
Out down to my Sisters in Stone Yesterday, passed slowly in traffic another Estate, in the same (rare) colour (Steely Blue, like smoothomega's) as mine, his was a CDX, got a nice little acknowledgement and wave, pity it was still too fast to sell the forum.

Was this you?

Ive noticed this a bit now, funny how Omega owners often do sort of acknowledge each other more than other cars drivers.

General Discussion Area / Finally got the MV6 back :)
« on: 25 June 2007, 12:24:54 »
Been a long time gone, with its water leak (torrent) and a few other bits, but got it back last night, gawd I've missed it.
Jobs Done:
Cam Covers - Didn't know they were so bad, but plugwells all full of oil,
New Plugs
New Oil Cooler, seal dodgy on old one, cooler itself rusting, so a future job now done.
Thermostat resealed - Seemed to be the problem, but possibly a few small leaks.
New gaskets and o'rings all the way
Changed the Front brake disks and pads
Brake Fluid Change
Oil and Filter Change
Adjusted Headlight aim up a bit

I'd forgotten how nice it was to drive, a lot smoother than when it went as well.
Fair bit of smoking from the cam covers now, presume that will disappear in a week or so as the crap gets burned off.

MOT next month,
When he is going to also replace the Diff seal and change the Diff oil
Replace the fuel filter.
Fit my new front vacuum tank so the multiram is fixed.

Need to top the coolant up a bit, must have been some air in the system, praying it doesn't leak again.
Just need the rain to stop now so I can treat it to a bubble bath and wax.

Bad news is that I'm back in the office now as no need to work from home.

General Discussion Area / TV Choice
« on: 29 May 2007, 14:29:53 »
Looking for a TV for the conservatory.  (just being built so no rush)

  • 26" - Perfect for available space
  • Built in freeview  (Do you rate these in comparrison to a GOOD set top box, use a perfectly performing pioneer box on main telly, a joy compared to the cheap ones)
  • Inputs, minimum of :

2 scart
VGA input.
  • Wall Mountable (they probably all are now anyway)
  • Will be using it's own speakers
  • HD not to important, as this will be driven through freeview, dvd player or the PC, so standard picture is the important factor, havent got / not getting sky.  Despise poor picture quality / artefacts / pixellation.
  • Must behave properly with widescreen / 4:3 pictures, no-one is getting stretched in our house!
I am not brand loyal

Not had an LCD telly before, our main one is a CRT (nice Toshiba 28" 4:3, and its staying for the moment)

Any recommendations or avoids?

Leaving the budget open, but don't want to spend anything silly.

Interested to hear anyones thoughts on this.

Cheers.

General Discussion Area / Vectra Keys
« on: 10 May 2007, 10:04:24 »
Father in law has just bought a 2.2 51 Reg Vectra CDX Estate, nice car.

Only got 1 key with it, and wants a spare.

Got the garage to give us another vectra key they had 'lying around and didnt know what it was for'

So, am I right in thinking I can buy a new blade from Ebay etc, then get it cut to match.
Then present a 'tech2 owner' with car, car pass(being sourced) and the new (old) key, and it can be reprogrammed to the car.
(or do both keys get reprogrammed together?  I know they do on mazda's)

Cheers

And if we just have a blade cut, what can that do,
Open a door?  I Think yes
Open a deadlocked door?  I Think no
Start Car / Disable Alarm & Immob? I Think no.

General Discussion Area / Help with a shopping list please
« on: 02 April 2007, 14:30:23 »
Had my mechanic mate service the MV6, he gave me a shopping list :

Could someone provide part no's and prices please

Sump bung - mine nearly knackered apparently
diff seal - going apparently
Front disks & pads kit & the sensors - Advisory from last mot, still need doing
When he went to do the fuel filter, he stopped as he thinks a seal has gone, are there any bits here he can replace?  He didnt want to remove the old one to find he couldnt fit the new?

When it goes back he commented my headlights are pointing too low so is going to adjust those, and have another look for the mysterious coolant leak, still getting though a litre every few days.  Its not the HBV that is done and dry.

If any more info needed, I am seeing him tonight as te CDX is getting a service / breather clean and MOT.

Also as vxon still not issueing trade cards, its probably worth me joining another club to save on that lot, who is the quickest these days?

Cheers

How about a forum, spilt into North West, North East etc etc etc

We can then post in 'local' garages we have had good / bad experiences with.
Where can do tech2 work reasonably etc.

General Discussion Area / Cheapo Tech2 Finally arrived
« on: 06 February 2007, 12:01:28 »
After just over a month, I've had a phonecall from the Mrs saying 'A Chinese parcel has arrived'
Looks like Chinese customs have had it.

Looking forward to having a play

has anyone tried the English software from www.talktomycar.co.uk with it?
Is it the same? notice it has English / Hungarian option so looks promising.

No faults to use it on yet, but with 2 meega's in the house, thought it may well be worth getting in advance, especially with a month's delivery time!  At under £30 it will pay for itself if I use it once.
Will plug it in once I've charged up the old laptop and see if it talks to either / both.
