It's actually a treble kicking because Oliver Dowden has resigned.

Of no consequence. The one good thing to come out of it was that the stuffed shirt Dowden resigned...by tweet for maximum effect.
Wakefield was always going back to Labour, they only voted for Boris for his stand on Brexit, and that's done. The Lib Dems were purely a protest vote, and Ed Davey will not become prime minister, he will go the way of David Steele, Paddy Ashdown, Vince Cable, etc.
Why can't people see the history in this? We've seen it all before.
I see Starmer came out of hiding to congratulate his winning candidate, after hiding for a week because he didn't have the balls to either condemn or support the rail strike.

Oliver Dowding should have been sacked along with whoever selected the anti Brexit candidate in the 'red wall' seat of Wakefield which voted 60% to leave the EU. 

The LimpDums have spent some serious cash down here as East Devon has been plastered with yellow LibDem signs. They are literally everywhere!

A few brave souls have Tory signs up, but not a sign of Labour.....

Before the Boris's confidence vote I emailed my MP, Chris Loder and told him that he should vote for the PM as the last thing the country needs right now is a couple of months without leadership while the Tories select a new leader/PM. 

I was shocked and surprised yesterday to get a reply!      He said that he voted against the PM as he felt that No10 needed a 'shot across the bows'.  Fair enough, but luckily for Boris he didn't get enough shots to sink him!

The British electorate has always used bye-elections to give those in power a public kicking. When the powerful are competent and paying attention, this works well to make them focus a bit better on their promises. The current bunch of egotists, suck-ups and incompetents don't have the self awareness to realise this is aimed at them.


Also, it doesn't mean you can expect those results to extend to a general election.


Starmer is very much the anti-Boris in that he's competent and accountable, but personality free. He ought to be the equivalent of a military XO, enforcing the boss's will in the background. Both parties have the problem that out first past the post system has led to two parties that have an unwieldy spread of doctrine that are next to impossible to control without causing a huge amount of internal strife.

He is indeed and he's a proper small 'c' conservative as well, who believes that the low tax/small state formula works. 

The country needs a hefty dose of Thatcherism. Nigel Lawson slashed taxes and ended up raising more revenue.
