my good pal in York that I drank with almost every Saturday night for years was taking his son some where & whilst in the car started to feel ill, so much so that his son took him to the A&E. sadly he never came out. he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. he was given 3 blood transfusions but nothing worked.  when his wife went to see him on the Monday she was told that he wouldnt last the  week. he died on the Wednesday. when he was first admitted his prognosis was he had covid. i believe there was a delay in getting the blood test results because of staffing problems due to the Queens jubilee, though poor sod would not have survived anyway. life is sh*t sometimes

That is very sad, but when our time is up it is no matter what we try and do to stop it. :'( :'(

Sorry to hear about your mate Ray. 

When someone has a relatively quick end like this though, I always think it's a kind of blessing that they didn't suffer for months or even years on end like some sadly do before they go.

MIL was taken to hospital with a stroke about 10 days ago. She is strong as a horse and within a couple of days was almost back to normal and they were starting to organise sending her home.
Then her oxygen levels dropped and tests showed she had now picked up Pneumonia in hospital.
Now in ICU and FIL was told today they dont think she is going to get better.
You just never know......

That's more or less what happened to my Mum. I went into hospital on the Monday morning to try and arrange to get her out that afternoon/evening because they said she was ready for discharge. When I went back that evening to get her she was going down hill and it was obvious the nurses were worried. She had caught "Hospital acquired Pnenomia". She died about 9am the following (Tuesday) morning.

One thing to be aware of is that Sepsis can have similar symptoms to pneumonia. If Sepsis goes on the death cert then the Sh1t hits the fan and the hospital is in trouble - it's notifyabe to the health department and I think required an inquest and post mortem. So I often wonder if "Hospital aquired pneumonia" is used in place of Sepsis coz it's less aggro for all involved.

I’ve been in hospital for three weeks now after thirteen weeks of illness and had every test going. X-Ray, CT, MRI, Echo, Ultrasound etc. and I’m hooked up to antibiotics. I’ve had a camera in to the heart, (I was born with a hole in the heart but there’s no change there) , a brain scan and lord knows what else. I’m on Ensure food supplement as I’ve lost two and a half stone, and hooked up to a drip to control my low blood pressure. Currently laid here in Wycombe hospital watching a blood transfusion go through the cannula to get some iron in me. I originally thought I had long covid but it’s not.
This thread has just knocked me for six.  I’m big enough and ugly enough to admit that I’m genuinely scared.

Not sure where to start, but this thread certainly puts a perspective on what we have been facing at work the last couple of days... Waiting 3 or 4 days to get somewhere is a minor inconvenience in comparison.

You are obviously in the best place for professional medical attention, who hopefully will pull you through.  As I said previously in this thread, how the life we have is so precious and should be valued no matter what shit is happening else where around us.  All being in well ou will pull through, and even if you are not religious, it is now time to pray for it!!

I honestly didn’t think I would re-visit this thread but I’m a bit happier now that I’ve been told that the bug/bacteria in my blood is not the ‘L’ word that Ray mentioned. I was waiting for the results when Ray posted, hence why I was knocked for six, as I hadn’t considered that possibility.
Also, I apologise for hijacking Ray’s thread. All of my scans have come back clear as far as I know (I’m mostly deaf so can’t hear what they are telling me), except the camera in the heart, which shows that I do require heart surgery. So, they need to clear the bacteria in my blood before they can operate, hence the cannula antibiotics.

Getting back to Ray’s mate, it does go to show how soon things can happen. I’d been ill for thirteen weeks before I collapsed and hit the deck, because my blasé attitude towards life was ‘I’ll either beat it or it will beat me’.
My outlook is very different now.

Have only just got back on line as my old laptop finally gave up the ghost and it's replacement arrived this morning.
Hope things go well for you YZ and they don't keep you waiting around for too long for your op. Has your cardiologist mentioned to you to keep active as much as you feel comfortable with as it's good for the heart. If you're on blood thinners try not to miss a dose if at all possible. I've got a heart procedure on July 21st so i can empathise with you.
As Rays post about his mate shows, you never know what is waiting for you at any given time. Stay safe fellow OOFers.
