My 2.0l failed mot because of an oil leak (passed on everything else yippee) just having a look and the usual cam cover gasket problem. I was amazed I hadnt been having any misfires because the sparkplugs were full up with oil. I have cleaned out the engine breather orifice regularly but I just flushed out the breather connections on the cover with a hosepipe  then compressed air an incredible amount of black carbon gunk came out. The cam cover has a broken bit where the gasket sits where it goes over the cam seal area so I could do with a new one any ideas the best place to source one ?. I think for now I will try bodging it with silicone to get it mot'd

cheers good point as I type I'm gluing the gasket into the broken plastic bit with black silicone then im going to use draper d574 multi gasket on the head surface as it cleans off easy if i get a new one.

From the manual ....

8.4.1. Fluid leaks
You must check for fluid leaks on all vehicles other than Class 3. You should do this with the engine idling.

A leak of fluids such as engine coolant, screen wash and fluid required for Selective Catalyst Reduction are not reasons for failure.

You should fail a vehicle if a fluid leak creates a pool on the floor within 5 minutes that’s more than 75mm in diameter or if there are many leaks which collectively leak fluid at the same rate.

You can refuse to carry out the test if there’s an excessive fluid leak.


so it has to be p155ing out to fail ,minor leak is "pass and advise"

I think I've managed to fix leak cleaned off engine with degreaser and all dry after a quick run booked in for retest tomorrow  :y

My new cam cover came today from Poland it seems very good quality and all as it should be. I won't be fitting it yet as my old one is still oil tight.
