Swapping the pump out takes less than an hour.

Relay is a red herring if thumping the tank makes it run.

Carpet out, six screws on the stainless plate.
Unscrew the retaining ring with a blunt screw driver/block of wood. It's bastid tight, but not secured by magic.
Unclip the fuel lines and tuck to one side.
Pry the lid off.
Three clips hold the pump carrier in the swirl pot.
Either replace or swap out the pump alone.

Bish, bash bosh :y

The actual pump is common to both saloon and estate. Buy the most convenient and swap it into your original assembly ;)

When you get to it, you'll find there's three tabs around the edge of the swirl pot holding it into the base in the tank. Press them in at the same time and the pot lifts out. You then work round the top and squeeze together each of the serrated tabs arrowed below, which releases the pump retainer piece in the middle. My new Chinesium pump came with a new pickup filter too - not bad for 25 quid next day from Amazon...

Ok  have had Bosch pump delivered. Got assistance to attempt to do it .   But pump is different part No. from my original .

The box has a seal on it , so reluctant to open , but my original pump is longer that the box the new one comes in  . . .
not good :-\

Original part no. is 0 580 453 985    new one supplied is  0 580 453 489   could this be an updated compatible part ?

Waiting for supplier to e mail back as reluctant to break seal and then they wont take it back  . . .but thought I would ask on here while waiting.        TIA Al   :y

Was the one you bought listed for an estate? If so, open the box, take a photo of both pumps side by side and contact the supplier.

Perhaps the difference in length is due to the shallow, wide, underfloor estate tank compared to the deep, upright saloon one?

So far as I can see, GM part #9196213 is Bosch 0 580 453 489. Same as dave the builder linked to below. And it's a fuel pump for an Omega B.
However it doesn't seem to be the same as the one fitted to your car.
Bosch 0 580 453 985 appears to be GM #9119098 which is NLS. It's superseded by GM #93181359 also used on Astra G and Vectra B.
I think you need to compare your pump with a good picture of a GM #93181359.

cross referencing on https://www.autodoc.co.uk/bosch/1156426

the Bosch one also states saloon and estate in the ebay listing

Supplier says if box is opened they will not exchange or refund. Yet another nightmare of online shopping.

Good point.
But if your pump is longer than the box, the pump inside it can't be right.

the part no. of the original pump  0 580 453 985    comes up as being for a senator on my googaling.  So do I try and find one of those and just order it ?

also going to check the numbers on the Lucas one that Dave found  and posted up   :-\

update :  the Lucas one is the same number as the newly supplied one   ends in 489   :'( :'( :'(

So now gonna search for a pump with this number  0 580 453 985

Might help if you post up a good picture of your pump.

Your original part is NLS and superseded, hence I'm wondering if the later part can still be used with the earlier swirl-pot?

Might this be the pump you need, Delphi version.
