V6 Auxiliary belts
« on: 11 May 2013, 01:49:12 »

Probably a daft question but I really need an answer before I go hacking into a freshly restored chassis.
Do all the V6 range come equipped with air con as I really need to loose the pump to get the engine lower in the chassis, problem being length of the belt, if they did any one know of a shorter belt that would fit?
Thanks in advance     John R

I think I read somewhere on here that people loose the aircon pump and use a cavalier v6 aux belt. Pretty sure thats what you need. Hth  :y

There are early models without aircon so it is possible to get also a belt for such engine. Don't have epc at the moment but dealer should be able to sort this for you  :y

Indeed, early base models came without A/C, and used a shorter belt.

The belt manufacturers use a code for the belt width &number of grooves followed by the length in millimetres.

If you don't get any joy from a dealer get yourself to a decent motor factors, my favourite is Milehams in Katherine Drive, Dunstable. Last time I was there they had hundreds of belts hanging from hooks above the shelves around the shop.

Worth measuring how long you think the belt should be (with a tape measure) before getting them to look in their parts books.

It's even easier to use an old, longer belt with a cut in it to mock up the new shorter belt. It has the advantage to fitting the pulleys properly.

Correct and readily available - told by main stealer a few years back that could no longer supply non a/c V6 belt.  Bought the 4 pot Omega with a/con belt and used that to bypass a seized compressor on the Elite Estate.  Believe though that its the same part no. as the non a/c V6 belt!!!!

Had the same problem when rebuilding a 24v Cosworth engine a couple of years ago, all I needed to finish it was an O ring for the oil cooler take off, no Ford don't supply anything for these no more even Cosworth don't supply them, got the part No from Steve Scott at A1 Rally Sport -standard Ford part as fitted to an RS Turbo!  first and last time I ever went to a main dealer.
