As Chris says, you have to press and hold the button for a good 4 -6 secs or it won't open.

also remember, when the ignition is on, the boot will refuse to open. (another 'feature', which was removed in 2002) Unless you do the hilper mod  :y

Early facelifts like mine have the annoying won't open unless key is out set up, which Vauxhall modified on later facelifts to be a time delay switch which acts as the safety feature instead.

Hilpers mod is good but messes up interior light turning off.

Reckon this could be further worked on to add an additional wire or switch to prevent this.  Anyone?

Instead of simply cutting the wire, why not wire a small switch into the line so that the boot can be released whenever you like by opening the switch, but can be left to operate 'normally' while the switch is left closed?
