Wanted - Facelift Saloon factory Elite spoiler
« on: 18 September 2020, 09:41:24 »

Hi all,

Moved to New Zealand over 10 years ago and managed to pick up a facelift saloon Omega over here (very very rare cars over here), and really want to install an Elite/MV6 rear bootlid spoiler for it,

This type here
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2003_Vauxhall_Omega_Elite_V6_Automatic_3.2_Rear.jpg

Problem is these cars are non existent over here in NZ,

Is there anyone that has one for sale who would be willing to sell and ship to New Zealand? (At my cost of course).

Thanks,
Jamie

Joking aside ::)

There's none obviously available for sale, even on Ebay.de, which used to be a really good source of that sort of thing.

A practical suggestion would be to obtain/modify a Monaro or Commodore SS bootlid spoiler...  :-\

I think the main problem (if you can find one) is that the majority will still be attached to boot lids. Obviously they can be removed, but this isn't the easiest thing to do successfully without causing damage to the spoiler and also to the boot lid itself due to the bonding used to attach it. I have three on boot lids but possibly like the majority, would prefer to keep them as one unit should a replacement ever be needed.
Also the 'Omega 3.2 V6' name plate on the boot lids (as is the 2.6) is also now no longer available new, and succesfully removing them from an old lid and reattaching them to a different boot lid in a straight line and in the correct position is very time consuming (as they are separate letters on the later cars). Using the method as they were originally supplied holds them all together with the correct spacing and positioning and takes less than a minute.
So basically, finding a spoiler that some one is happy to seperate from a good used boot lid may not be an easy task.....as I for one would want to keep the lid, spoiler and name plate all together as one unit.

A bit of heat, effort and care and they come off easily enough.

I think there was one in a scrap yard where I got a door off an mv6. Wrexham.  It was about 3 years ago now.

To add to this, were a suitably priced boot lid with a spoiler be available to purchase, then I would happily oblige in the removal of said spoiler and getting it packed for shipping.

Unfortunately the only ones that have I have found are still firmly attached to cars, and the cheapest is currently £300. In Devon... With no MoT...

The last one I attempted to remove from a knackered boot lid was a right bast**d. It was the adhesive similar to Tiger Seal or Sikaflex holding it on that was the main obstacle. Not sure if the originals were actually held on with strong double sided panel tape or a flexible adhesive....

Flexible adhesive. Aftermarket were supplied with a 3M product, both Prodrive for the MV6/Elite and Irmscher ;)

It takes about 10 minutes to remove one from a bootlid with a wallpaper scraper. Just carefully tap it around the edge of the spoiler with a hammer to cut through the sealant. Ive done loads of them. ;)

Tigerseal or Sikaflex are extremely good for bonding, but trying to remove something stuck with either is difficult as they are very tough when cured. It's probably unnecessarily strong for a rear spoiler. If a more universal adhesive sealant is used that is fractionally more flexible, then I think it would be far easier to cut through it with a wallpaper scraper.

I believe they are stuck on with Sikaflex from the factory. All the ones Ive removed in approx. 10 minutes with a scraper and hammer were factory fitted.
I used to break Omegas for parts and always had a good demand for spoilers if I was willing to separate them from the bootlid.  ;)
