2001 aircon v6

no power to  aircon compressor works if wired seperatley not fuse suspect solonoid but do not know which one or where

Have you checked it's got enough gas pressure in the system?
It shuts down the feed to the clutch if there isn't.

tried self  refill but this requires pump to be running I will bridge wire pump and try again

Those self refill kits are a waste of time and money mate.
Get a real aircon firm to do it.
The system needs to be vaccumed out for about 30 mins to empty it of all the moisture and check for leaks then needs a measured amount of lubricant and a/c refrigerant putting back in. Get them to put uv dye in too so you can trace any leaks in the future.
