dont think they have knock sensors, but I'm just guessing at that.
I would be inclined to think otherwise, we've had astras and even on the omega when it rains or hails REALLY hard it sets the alarms off.  ::)

Apart from this Alpine   unit  what others are easy to put in?  Anyone put in a double dinn dvd player type or is it waste of time?

Has the sound quality dramaticly improved?

Thanks

I have put a kenwood DNX5220 in my omega, cracking piece of kit, does everything, sat nav, bluetooth, ipod, dvd, with dual zone control, reverse camera support and tv support....

wasn't cheap though, but was easy to fit and looks the business

Yep! Piccies please!!!  :y

Aye, i wouldn't want to be paying anymore than £80-100 for one, not that great....and they do require a different cage fitted.

.....but they do look pretty gash in gunmetal grey fitted to a migster  :-?

Since I converted mine to a manual I've lost cruise, just need (a clutch switch?????) and a nice person with a tech 2 to sort it in exchange for some beer tokens..............

I must admit, to show my ignorance, that I never knew a manual could have cruise control! :o :o  I suppose this is because I have only ever had cruise control with automatic cars! ::) ::)
Liz, even our DIESELS have cruise! How times change lol!

Disengaging the cruise via clutch doesn't work very well, it's a bit jerky and should only be used as a failsafe, like the brakeswitch.

Mutant, I think you are most probably correct about needing that clutch switch for the cruise to work for Sideways.

I'm sure there's an add on kit to make your wipers rain sensitive?
andyc is the man to ask.

Now that sounds interesting  :)
noooooooo! On a 2.2 CDX? Elites have a different windscreen with self dipping rear view mirror and some sort of sensor to make the rain sensitive bit work. That would be one hell of a mod!

....it does work very well though  :P

I have a CCR 2006 4disc for sale
It's complete system bose

Maybe this is something for you?
The 'Bose' bit will need configuring via Tech 2 diagnostics though to work wih a 'non-bose' specified car. 'TheBoy' is the guy to speak to.

You will need a new cage I think, so make sure it comes with one and also the 4 digit security code. Make sure also that it is 'non Bose' so that it is compatible.

Average fleabay price around £75-100, vauxhall might be able to get reconditioned units around £130-140. 'Charcoal' is the colour you will require to match your dash.

I'd be tempted to get a fatter one for the little more it costs. The omega is a big car with losts of electrical gizmos. 65 or 75ah only around £55-60. Cheap even without trade card.

Generally, CAR400/CDR500/CCR600 interchangable (obviously, the CAR400/CDR500 can't drive CD Changer unit).

A minor correction . .
There are indeed some Versions of the CAR400 that will drive a CD unit, and are easily identified by an "O" where the cassette buttons are.

 8-)

I spotted that yesterday on a MK4 astra (G). Convinced myself that it was a 600 but as you say, marked up 400 on the cassette flap! Doubly strange because we have a MK4 astra and it's fitted with a 600 + changer!

ngrain, the CDR500 either made by delco (which is probably your best bet for standard fit) or VDO, will work a treat.

Make sure to get the correct 4 digit security code and want to be paying no more than around £50. Will slide straight in, with the help of some single din radio removal tools to get the old one out.   :y

If you do insist on using CDr's in your vehicles, and many people do due to reasons of theft and damage to discs etc. (as well as home audio equipment) my experience of pressing some several thousand discs has found a combination that works most reliably. As TB remarked, the key is good media. Verbatim discs are good but I tend to favour 'Imation' discs. These have proved most reliable for myself but also burned in tandem with a good writer.

CD writers are so cheap, the ones I prefer are made by Pioneer and have achieved perfect results everytime through Nero, some of which are a good number of years old. We have managed to achieve around 99% success when using this disc/write method.

The other important issues with CDr's is CD labels. The heat generated in a head-unit can cause the labels to peel off and land you in sticky (no pun intended!) territory. My advice would be not to use cheap labels and not to use thick labels, they can also cause balance issues with the disc, better not to use labels at all.
