General Car Chat / Signums gone at last
« on: 12 August 2011, 15:25:47 »
I have had diseases that were easier to shift than that bloody thing . Never again shall one grace my driveway !

Did make a good few quid on it but not worth the hassle, Corsa's/Fiestas/206's all the way from now on!

General Car Chat / Signums not very popular
« on: 30 July 2011, 10:14:04 »
Been advertising an 03 for a bit with no interest whatsoever, seems they are less popular than bloody omegas, despite dropping the price below anything else on the market!

I quite like it as it's a bit more distinctive than mondeos and vectras but i'm far too attached to the LPG mig to keep it.

Not fishing but FFS you can't give big cars away at the minute. Will definately be sticking to smaller cars once this buggers gone. Anyone managed to move bigger stuff lately?

General Car Chat / Bmw is better
« on: 15 July 2011, 17:38:35 »
Yaaaay the 728i is better, had the spark plug hole timeserted( better than a helicoil apparently, cheers for the tip Andy B) and it's running really well, smooth as silk......... apart from the slight manifold gasket blow and slight grumble from a front wheelbearing and it's in for it's VIC on Monday regardless! Cars hey !

I think this may be a keeper but dont tell the Miggy ;D

Signums in for it's MOT in the morning then it's getting shifted on, thing is, I quite like that too now. What to do!

General Car Chat / AA tow?
« on: 14 July 2011, 18:10:56 »
Righto the BMW is going in for a timesert tomorrow to a garage about 1.5 miles down the road but I don't want to run it with an open cylinder,I.e no spark plug as it is shooting petrol out and it won't do it any good methinks.

Am going to phone the AA and be straight i.e it's broke, can't be driven so give me a tow and can you come at 8am tomorrow. Do you reckon they will do it?

Can't be arsed with waiting and them poking about as I know whats needed and they can't fix it

General Car Chat / BMW bargain?
« on: 01 July 2011, 22:02:24 »
Been watching this 728i sport individual for a bit and it was on originally for a ridiculous £1495, I paid a hell of a lot less! , it has a lot going against it:

Needs a VIC ( £40) but the repairs( new bumper and spare wheel well reshaped) seem good enough, and the testing place is next to my work.

Got a blow on the exhaust manifold gasket which is a hell of a lot more accesible than a Miggy ;D

Slight misfire which feels exactly like a miggy DIS pack failing so I think a coil or two have gone.

Plus points are it is Alpina/ M - sported up a treat, it's pretty much mint and looks badass with a good history too. I will make money on it break or fix.

So would you have been brave/stupid enough? and out of interest, what would you have paid?

General Car Chat / Signums quite nice
« on: 05 July 2011, 19:26:26 »
Picked up an 03 2.2 Signum elegance today and I must say it's really rather nice, great steering and shifts well for a fairly big car. I would consider keeping it but as the Omega is near worthless it's easier to shift it on.

Weird back seat arrangement though and the overhead storage is novel.  Was this supposed to be the new omega?

General Car Chat / New BMW is goosed! enjeneer needed
« on: 02 July 2011, 18:00:46 »
Well the bargain 728i bought appears to have a hidden horrors! It was misfiring so I suspected a dodgy " pencil" coil pack, on removing them number 5 is melted/burnt/destroyed and lo and behold the plug beneath is in a helicoil that appears to have worked it's way out with the helicoil, amateur effort by the looks of it.

Anyhow it's life now hangs in the balance, I can break it and make some cash as I paid buttons for it but it's that nice I would rather see if it can be revived. The thread appears non existant in the plug well which is odd as helicoils need a thread to wind into.

So! can it be recut and an oversized helicoil/time sert be fitted?  and could this be done in situ?

Any suggestions of a decent place/person in the North west?

General Car Chat / Bought a signum
« on: 29 June 2011, 22:18:30 »
03 2.2 elegance Spares or repair jobby for fun and hopefully a bit of profit. reportedly cutting out randomly and most likely the fuel pressure regulator as these are renowned for being shite, worst case high pressure fuel pump which may mean breaking for parts and getting cash that way !  slim chance of getting this done by Vx for free as they are still picking up the bill in some cases, even on ones this old.

Either way it keeps me out of the pub and I find tinkering theraputic to balance my hellish worklife at the moment, anyone come across this prob on these?

General Car Chat / Thinking of swapping to a BMW!
« on: 13 June 2011, 18:21:26 »
I'm finding that 98/99 BMW 7 series are looking like stonkingly good value and can't promise the next decent LPG'd 735 or 740 one that appears won't end up on my driveway !

Nowt wrong with the silver bullet but getting itchy feet.

Any thoughts on the 7 series ?

General Car Chat / LPG MPG?
« on: 01 June 2011, 19:42:44 »
Just managed to squeeze 320 miles out of 69 litres of gas, mostly motorway with a bit of round town, this is the highest I have ever managed on a tank. How does this compare to other gassers?

Sorry if it's been talked about before!

General Car Chat / P/time trade insurance
« on: 29 May 2011, 16:05:43 »
I am doing a bit more trading lately as a hobby/ beer token generator and my insurance company are getting a bit tetchy about me adding cars for a week or so and my latest quote is a joke so I have looked at a couple of sites offering part time trade cover.

What I can't fathom is can these/do these cover your everyday vehicle? also do you need to be Vat registred etc?  and roughly what do these policies cost, i'm only looking at covering cars worth 5 grand max and wouldn't have more than 2 on the go at any one time.

Reccomendations welcome by the way for decent firms/brokers :y
