Scientists are saying that without the rise in CO2 levels we would have an ice age within the next 1500 years.

Talk about things going a full circle as this was a big topic among scientists in the late 1960's.

We now all have duty to emit as much CO2 as possible to stave off the next ice age.

So next time some bearded, cardigan wearing, tree hugging environmentalist is lecturing you on reducing your carbon foot print, show him this and tell him to stick his views where the sun don't shine. 

PS: Mr Cameron, please can I have all I have paid in climate change taxes back.

Seriously though, who do we believe, or rather who do we want to believe?

As for resources running out, yes they will eventually, but that eventuality has moving goalposts. IIRC when I first started in the oil exploration business there were some doom and gloom merchants that said North Sea oil only had thirty years left, which makes it all done in ten years time! I know that is not true..... there have been some new discoveries and new technologies enabling drillers to go deeper, further and more convoluted in route to get to the black stuff. The black stuff they said could not be obtained as it was too difficult to get too, pah! Doom and gloomers still saying 'it's only got 30 years left' which is exactly what they said 20 years ago.

WW3 will not be starting over resources anyway, it will be because Israel launched a first strike against Iran

I'm a bit more optimistic over likely future wars and think, WW3 is unlikely, more likely to be minor skirmishes like Iran and religious and political extremists.

We have been on a technology v resources race since the start of industrialization. We started off using trees and their wood for fuel, once we had cut down most of the trees, it was coal, next gas and then oil. Electricity as an energy transmission medium had transformed civilization with nuclear power being the way forward. Mankind over this period has become much more energy efficient and there is still along way to go on this front. Apart from oil, virtually no mineral resources have been harvested from the seas and oceans to date. As resources get scarcer this will become cost effective and we will also get much better at recycling. I have yet to hear anybody even suggest, let alone say we can't do this anymore as there are no natural resources left.

To make sure we don't get an ice age, they ought to invert the road tax scale so all of those driving cars with the lowest CO2 emissions pay the £460 tax rate, that will teach all those green tinkers, and all those that drive a car of over 2.6L get their road tax free.
