Jeff Beck, guitarist who started out with the Yardbirds.

I was never a great fan of his playing or style although I tried many times to "get" it  , but his passing saddens me as it's another loss of a musician that I grew up listening to.
He was a great petrol head though and built many award winning hot rods all with his own hands . I was more tuned into him in that field back in the 70's and 80's .
This album cover brought the two genres together in such a perfect way .
A sad loss than many will be mourning tonight .

It took me a while to " get him" but his technique was completely unique, and to my knowledge, no-one even bothered to try and copy it.
Although several, including Hendrix, were influenced by him.
Only Clapton and Page left now from the 60,s generation of great guitarists.
His use of harmonics at the end of the video below is something that Ive never seen anyone do as effectively. Its much harder than it looks.
Also playing the strings while using the volume control and whammy bar at the same time could only be done by him in that way.
Istr he also invented the wah wah pedal.

And yes, most of the time he was much more interested in building his Hot Rods at home than going out on tour.

He's never really been on my radar, Albs, but that was an amazing performance. Truly talented.

I have a photo I took of him stood next to his hot rod at Truxton in the early 80s.

He was also responsible for Stevie Wonder writing Superstition.
He was recording with Stevie Wonder and they got talking about the different superstitions in England and the U.S.
Everyone except Beck went to lunch, and out of boredom he started messing around on the drum kit.
Wonder came back from lunch and asked who it was playing the drums. Beck said "its me Stevie".
Wonder told him to keep playing what he was playing, and then he started playing that famous funky intro on his keyboard.
Then he started coming up wit words about all things superstitious, and by the end of the session the song was written.

Nothing matches the Pavarotti version of this, but its still great.

Probably when she found out how much her Dad's Jetstar sold for, or how much her Mum charges for a Meet and Greet... :o

Wasn't she married to Michael Jackson for a spell? All the shit he put her through probably took a couple of decades off her :-X

That and the fact that being the daughter of Elvis was always going to be a heavy cross to bear.
She moved to Kent several years ago to try and live like an ordinary person, but that seemed naive to me.
She did live to 12 years older than her Dad was when he died though.
Its seems incredible that he was only in his early 40,s when he died.

He was certainly busy though.
