Omega General Help / Re: R plate omega estate stalling
« on: 18 March 2013, 22:54:56 »
Hi, I have had an R reg 2 litre estate for seven years. It stalled occasionally too. I changed AICV, cleared the small breather hole, no cure. Eventually it began to misfire under load, so I changed the plugs - no cure - then the plug leads - still no cure - then the coil pack. That cured the misfire, and it has not stalled since, in eighteen months.

Good luck.

Sounds like mass air flow sensor to me. I had a similar fault on a 3 litre six years ago. It's easy to check. Unplug the MAF sensor (in the air plumbing, after air cleaner there is a big curved hose(temp sensor), then a short straight hose with a plug - that's the MAF sensor). The engine will still run, but the engine management light will be on. Test drive the car. Engine will drive in default mode. If it does not stall, the fault was MAF sensor. You will need to replace it. They are cheapest on e-bay.

Good luck!

Omega General Help / electric window movement on door off car
« on: 17 March 2013, 19:43:51 »
I have four spare Omega doors kept for spares. Unfortunately I removed them with the windows down. Now I wish to raise the windows to recover the central locking door motors. I have tried 12 volts across every pair of pins on the connector to no avail. Is there any way I can raise the windows?
By the way, many thanks for earlier answers, and indeed for the many descriptions of Omega repairs. Today I changed a CL locking motor following OOF procedure.

Hi,
I should like to install a computer in a police special 3.2 manual petrol Omega. I have a spare instrument panel from a crashed 3 litre manual Omega, with a matching yellow socket at the back of the computer. I can buy the appropriate wiper stalk with buttons on e-bay. But is the wiring loom the same on the police special as the 3 litre?

1999 2 litre 16v manual petrol Omega T367KHL engine management light on constantly, but running OK. Cannot find the above codes in the list. I suspect the camshaft sensor. Can you help?

EML light on constantly. Recently changed cam sensor to cure stalling, but no EML light then. Now EML light on constantly, though car runs OK. Paper clip test gave 10 10 10 10 34 10 10 10 10 34. No such code in list for Simtech. Please help.

Please help. 1999 2 litre manual 16v. Recently changed cam sensor to cure stalling, though no EML light on. Yesterday did test run, all OK. Last night put car in garage, EML light on. Checked codes with paper clip, says 10 10 10 10 34 10 10 10 10 34. Simtech list does not list 34. Any ideas?

1999 2 litre petrol manual omega. the left hand indicator bulbs are on all the time not flashing. I suspect K46 relay stuck but cannot locate it. Removing fuse 12 extinguishes them, then indicators work normally, but then I have no instruments or radio.

Please help!

Car is 1999 T reg. 2 litre petrol maual saloon

Recently, when I lock or unlock the car with the flipper, the n/s amber lights stay on, not flashing. If I flip on/off long enough I can get them off, but it gets ever more difficult.

I thought it was the CL/alarm relay behind driver's side kick panel, but am not so sure now. The black/white lead, which I thought from the wiring diagram was the culprit, in fact is 12v positive most of the time, only dipping when the lamps flash. I conclude mine is a later wiring diagram car. This means it has a K46 relay which flashes. when the white/black leads goes earthy.

Am I right? Where is the relay? Sounds like somewhere behind the glovebox.

Omega General Help / Re: Oh Bugger - The END?
« on: 22 August 2006, 22:07:45 »
I also had a cambelt jump/slip four teeth on my V6 Omega last April. Sympton was car would start but rattled awfully. I stopped engine at once.

I stripped it down and found the cams were 4 teeth ahead of the crank. I took advice from Dr. Omega on the yahoo site and proceeded more or less as you plan, but allow me to elaborate anyhow.

With engine at TDC on no. 1 by bottom pulley mark, I removed the old cam belt. I rotated the crankshaft 60 degrees anticlockwise to locate all pistons out of harms way. I then rotated all camshafts a couple of turns each, using a socket on the sprocket nuts, checking that I felt resistance at all times  - I did. This told me that no valves were bent - good news.

I next set all cam sprockets with the alignment marks aligned with the notches in the rear cover. Then I rotated the crankshaft 60 degrees clockwise back to TDC.

I then put on the new pulleys and belt as described in Haynes and Total Vauxhall October 2005, using the special tools. I am sure that the site DVD tells you how to do this, mine has just arived but I have not run it yet. I tensioned the belt as instructed, with the aligment marks in line. I removed the special tools and rotated the engine two turns. I checked that the bottom pulley and cam sprockets all still lined up. They did.

I reassembled ancillaries and paused for a cup of coffee. I then connected the battery and started the engine. It ran sweet as a nut.

I had made one mistake. After a week or so the EMS light came on, and the fault was eventually traced to the knock sensor lead having been located on the wrong side of the auxilary belt tensioner and having been worn through by the aux belt. Took it apart again, resoldered the knock sensor lead, reassembled, and all was well.

It has run well ever since.

Good luck,

Terry
