DTM, chrisgixer and Andy H I thank you greatly.

I have saved this thread and I will go through all that both of you suggested.  I am budding hobbyist trying to learn this car as I kind of like it.

I will post as appropriate whatever turns out to be successful resolution.  You guys across the Atlantic really know a lot.

I am very happy for the answers and time you guys gave.

Regards. :y
Always pleased to help those in the colonies ::)

Hi guys and gals can you please shed any light on this problem I’m having when the car has been stood over night it is very hard to start it does turn over but does it for a long period of time there is a lot of smoke of various colours the car shakes like mad, it will eventually fire up quick rev and the smoke clears its then fine all day i.e. starts as normal. The glow plug light is coming on and going off as normal there is plenty of fuel in and when running can’t see any fuel leaks anywhere. This is the 2nd morning it has done it, have you any ideas
TIA
if it's white smoke definite glow plug and yes they can go overnight.
only fit ngk as these last longer.
also try turning the glowplugs on a couple of times before starting :y
how did you get on with your fuel leak
Other brands are available - Beru are also OEM but steer clear of cheap ones on e-Bay

They also have a tendency to fail 'locked' so are always turning & making a noise akin to a jet engine
Although some advise their removal completely (LH thread BTW) getting a replacement will prove a problem as they are supposed to be stored vertically - do you think that this is likely to happen in parts stores or during transportation?
It's a lot quieter when not fitted or running but there is the risk overheating especially when under load for a time or idling in traffic

elite pete... why do any of us spend money on cars? 'caues they give us pleasure and it's called a hobby!!
woody....cheers, i have full access to proffesional workshop equipment and help but does seem an awefull lot of work, so will leave it well alone.
There was a chap on ebay selling a MK1 Carlton/Holden estate with a factory fitted V8 that needed little work and got no bids and was only £350, trouble is it was on the Isle of White. that's what gave the idea......
You can float it across from the Isle of Wight ;)

im not doing it to sell im doing it to keep i only sold the car as i was doing space ship millage and couldn't afford to fuel it in my view i would have the luxury of the elite with the irmscher kit and the mpg of the tractor best of both worlds

don't go there  :y  :y  :y  :y You'd have a nice looking car that sounded like a taxi!   ;D  ;D  ;D

Omega General Help / Re: Bio Diesel...

My neighbour uses a "two tanks of diesel to one of biofuel" method on his Astra diesel, and he swears by it, bio is only 85p per litre over here (lydney), but he has to change his fuel filter every 2k...............
But we're talking about the BMW lump with Bosch fuel injection which I believe does not take kindly to Bio or Veg
I'd like to be corrected on this & run mine on either one or the other

103
Mine's done 156K now with no fluid changes & no problems

Could be the stainless steel EGR pipe fractured
Mine has done this twice now
it had sheared at the flange now blanked off :y
The first time it went at the EGR valve end, the second was at the other. I have replaced mine on 2 occasions
What is the effect of blanking it off?? It must be there for a purpose!
