I have saved this thread and I will go through all that both of you suggested. I am budding hobbyist trying to learn this car as I kind of like it.

Other brands are available - Beru are also OEM but steer clear of cheap ones on e-BayQuoteHi guys and gals can you please shed any light on this problem I’m having when the car has been stood over night it is very hard to start it does turn over but does it for a long period of time there is a lot of smoke of various colours the car shakes like mad, it will eventually fire up quick rev and the smoke clears its then fine all day i.e. starts as normal. The glow plug light is coming on and going off as normal there is plenty of fuel in and when running can’t see any fuel leaks anywhere. This is the 2nd morning it has done it, have you any ideasif it's white smoke definite glow plug and yes they can go overnight.
TIA
only fit ngk as these last longer.
also try turning the glowplugs on a couple of times before starting
how did you get on with your fuel leak

There was a chap on ebay selling a MK1 Carlton/Holden estate with a factory fitted V8 that needed little work and got no bids and was only £350, trouble is it was on the Isle of White. that's what gave the idea......
Cheers for the info mate, it looks like it is a bit of an exclusive club I could soon be joining .Exclusive & Elite!
Beg to differQuoteim not doing it to sell im doing it to keep i only sold the car as i was doing space ship millage and couldn't afford to fuel it in my view i would have the luxury of the elite with the irmscher kit and the mpg of the tractor best of both worlds
don't go there You'd have a nice looking car that sounded like a taxi!
Ask The Boy how much he liks BMW's lump, apparently they're not all they're cracked up to be
My neighbour uses a "two tanks of diesel to one of biofuel" method on his Astra diesel, and he swears by it, bio is only 85p per litre over here (lydney), but he has to change his fuel filter every 2k...............But we're talking about the BMW lump with Bosch fuel injection which I believe does not take kindly to Bio or Veg
The first time it went at the EGR valve end, the second was at the other. I have replaced mine on 2 occasionsQuoteCould be the stainless steel EGR pipe fracturedit had sheared at the flange now blanked off
