2.5td EGR pipe
« on: 13 August 2012, 21:02:16 »

I had a fair old 'ticking' sound come from the engine bay on the way to work this morning. I had a quick look and noticed it was coming from the exhaust manifold area. I've just discovered it's the EGR pipe, where it bolts onto the exhaust manifold.

Clamp is tight, but movement in pipe. As far as I recall there's no gasket, it's just a 'press fit'.

Anyone had this happen, and is it a case of replacing the pipe or can it be made 'gas tight' again somehow ?

Cheers.

Not uncommon for them to fail there.

Going by the response, did you mean to say 'it's very, very, very, very rare for them to fail there' ?  ::)  ;D

Nah, twelve beer tokens is ok by me. Ok, not as good as if I'd taken the pipe off my other Omega before I'd disposed of it, but hey ho.

I had to replace mine twice, it fractured at both ends in turn!

Just got round to replacing it this afternoon. :y
First time I've had one fail in approximately 160,000 MiggyMiles. My previous 2.5td had 225,000 on the clock, and my current 2.5td has 140,000.
I did notice that the bracket half way along had broken, and I think I read somewhere on here that this could be a contributary factor.
