What have you bought BG?

The XJ jag is a fine looking car with an arse shaped like that of a black woman......which is fine unless the black woman is Diane Abbott. :)

It is The LC colour, nearest I'll get to one at the prices they are now,  It was purchased for a bit less than advertised, It's on a 63 plate, the only thing I think it wasn't speccd with is heated steering wheel,, Would have liked the full fat VXR but the Tax on them is Stupid, did look at one, it was red so that's a no instantly,.
Biggest issue I've found is Traders who can't be arsed, not tuning up, thinking that everyone is a bit dim,and you point out faults with the car that are looking you in face, obvious ones and they get very defensive, looked at one rear beam heavily corroded to excess,  needed discs,, Wouldn't discount price, and said it's fine,,,   Too

Took a while to find this one, but we have it all locked up.☺️
Try to get some pics up at weekend.

Sounds like a good buy, BG. :y

You won't miss the heated steering wheel if you grew up with ice on the inside of the windows like I did. ;)

In order to get the heated wheel and keyless entry on my car I would have needed to find an extra £800+ for the comfort pack. Needless to say I didn't tick that box.

I hear that cars with keyless entry are easier to nick. :)

Yes.....but....on the wife's grandland, if you press the key to lock it, you need to press the key to open it again. Keyless entry doesn't work until you lock the car that way again. I hope that is also the case on more expensive models. If not, why not?

Do you keep your keys in a Faraday cage?......supposedly this will stop thieving scum from nicking your car without the need for keys.

Nobody would attempt to nick Mrs Stemo car, as they'd get savaged by the Whippet that Guards the Pigeons which live in the boot.

Heated steering wheel is one of those things you wonder how you ever managed without... so much easier than trying to warm your fingers on the heated mirror.

without Googling it .... I thought the swivel headlight DSs came with the later larger DS21 type double headlight .... earlier DSs had a single round headlight.

It will be interesting to see how you get on with it over time.

What headlights do you have? I am unimpressed withmy bi xenons. I guess LEDs are the go to now.

It's got Bi-xenons that go round corners for some reason, How I've managed all these years going round corners I don't know..

The DS had them in the 70s  ;)

Like many gimmicks, it's one you miss when you suddenly dont have it.

I know Dad missed 'em when he replaced his 1970 DS Safari with a GSA that didn't have them....

Come on, common as now. Even my Yeti has Zenon's that turn when you steer and at slow speed puts the spot light on to light kerb at a junction.

Is that why i get dazzled by modern cars when they're coming towards me?  ;)

My old  Dad owned 3 DS Citroen when I was a nipper.....none of them had the swivel lights.

Even so, compared to an antiquated Austin or Morris of the time they looked like a UFO had landed. :)

Yeah, but thats VAG, and the stupid foglight turn lights are built to burn retinas of oncoming drivers...   ...be it a Pisshat or a Yeti.  How dare other road users try to use the road ;D

Better them being "oncoming" than being stuck behind one. ;)

150 horses is enough to lose your license fairly quickly if you try hard enough.

Family cars of the sixties made do with 40-50 BHP from their wheezy pushrod OHV lumps.

I'm thinking Ford Anglia, Austin 1100, Mk1 Cortina 1200.

Even a 50bhp A series in a car from the A series era would be enough to end up in court.  Probably less so if fitted in today's lard arsed cars...

I got done for speeding in my first car. A Viva HB, which iirc was around 50bhp.
I genuinely wasnt speeding but two coppers lying, meant there was no point me arguing about it.
I got away with a hell of a lot of other stuff they never caught me for, so swings and roundabouts I suppose.  ::)

So I've had the Insignia a week,  let's begin.
Mirrors are Shite,  It's comfortable, climate system isn't as efficient as the Omega or the Saab,, and the Infotainment system is frigging not simples, the stupid rain sensing wipers I don't like,, The auto opening boot is nice,,, and I think new tyres will be required as it's got a right old mix on, being on 245/45/18 XL it might not be happening yet.
Changing the oil+filter is interesting,  if car isn't high enough you can't drop undertray flap down enough, and it's easier to remove front wheel to remove oil filter.

Despite having an arse like a big black mama the Insignia is not a bad looking car.

You seem pleased with it overall. :y

My oil-sucker-outerer can't be pushed down far enough to suck the oil from my classic and highly desirable Vauxhall. :-\

The tube is long enough but there is an obstruction of some kind.

I've a Pela because one of my Smarts doesn't have a sump drain plug, but I do remember having a car where the under tray fouled the floor before it came off.

I'm considering it, given that the local tip let you dispose of about an egg cup full of oil each trip and I've got 2 20L containers of the stuff.

The Insignificant engine is a pita as the filter is at the back right-hand corner of the engine and officially requires a special funnel to get the oil to drain cleanly when the filter is removed... It's almost a subframe out job*. Sucking the oil out doesn't correct the stupid design.

It's not quite that bad, but the filter cap is buried in the depths of Narnia.

Exactly my thoughts.......The dipstick is extremely skinny for the last 5 or 6 inches and the tube simply can't be pushed in far enough. :-\

,,

Remove front wheel, get a 1L oil bottle cut the front out, wedge under filter housing, undo filter, all drops into said bottle, then wiggle it out, without spilling any ;D ;D

I have the same for the F-type, it actually has a metal tube inside the oil filler which passes down to the base of the sump by the drain hole to suck the oil through:

It is by far the easiest car I have ever changed oil and filter on  :o

I have a cheap £6 12v oil pump for my car, as its far easier than a Pela ;D.  But it doesn't work on her car with a proper dipstick, so I do use a Pela for that.

Both are easy to change oil on :)
