Omega General Help / Engine heat shield
« on: 24 April 2009, 12:15:59 »
I have a loose heat sheild on the engine drivers side , it looks as if the front secruing bolt has pulled through the shield , so plan was to remove the bolt and fit a washer to cover the enlarged hole .
Problem  is the bolt will not shift . Question is do I just put up with the rattle as I do not think the bolt will shift or what problem would be caused by removing the sheild all together  :y

« on: 28 February 2009, 12:42:24 »
I have just noticed the tahco is not working , problem is I am not syre when it stopped .
I have just fitted the sat nav to my car so something may have happened while doing that  :-[ but I have also had the dash display out at the same sort of time .
I have pulled the dash display out and reseated it and it made no difference .
When I start the car I can see a very slight defection on the needle .
Other than the needle not moving what other problems may this be causing the car runs fine  :y

I changed the lamps and got it all back together tried the lights all ok . then I went to just double check all was working ok and I found I had lost the headlights etc . I changed the headlight switch for a spare  I happened to have and they are all ok  :-/ What could have caused the switch to fail completley  :question

« on: 13 February 2009, 12:30:47 »
I  have a problem with the ignition switch again last year I had to replace the ignition switch barrel as the end had sheared off and was not turning the contact block
I went to leave work yesterday and the same thing has happened again its sheared off in the same place .
The lock was not tight or anything is it just bad luck or something more sinister .
Any ideas anyone . The one I fitted was genuine part and brand new if that makes any difference  :y

Omega General Help / HEADLIGHT WASHERS
« on: 05 January 2009, 19:32:19 »
I have asked this recently but had no response  :( I have recently fitted washers to my car , I hag a problem with the relay not working but this was just dirty connections and the pump now works ok .
Problem is only the jet on the drivers side sprays water the passenger side does nothing . If I pull the pipe off of the jet unit water squirts from this ok so it is not blocked frozen , now I am at work and on lates I have the unit off of the car , I have blown the jet with air and it works the tube extends and air comes ot of the nozzles it did not at first so may be it was blocked I just tried it back on the pipe on the car and nothing happened on this side again the tube did not extend at all yet alone spray . It does work with air though .so seems to be pressure problem . Are the units handed in any way other than the actual nozzle units  :question are the units strippable in any way  :question

Omega General Help / Headlamp wash relay
« on: 20 December 2008, 20:00:03 »
I have fitted the headlamp wash bits to my car today , its actually a fairly easy job to do .
I managed to get the old small tank out without taking the bumper off but no way would the bigger tank go in without taking it off again I am surprised how easy that was to do  ;)
Right question is where does the relay go  :-? and do I need to do anything else to get them to work .
Am I correct in thinking they only operate with ignition on and lights on  :question

Omega General Help / Where on EARTH
« on: 13 October 2008, 22:12:46 »
Does anyone have any idea where the main engine earth point is please . The cable comes off the battery and into the trunking along  the cam belt cover thats where I lose it . Just asking so I can check its clean and tight .
I did the one under the battery tray the other week since then the problems I was having with the temp gauge and tc light have gone away  :-X

Omega General Help / Windscreen washers
« on: 13 October 2008, 11:48:18 »
I had been having problems with my washer jets blocking up and the washer water smelling bad recently  .
So yesterday  I decided to investigate looking at the manuel it spoke of taking the front bumper off to get to the washer bottle so I had been putting it off for ages .
But if the bottle does not need to be taken out its a simple job after taking the grille off ,you can reach the pump etc no problem .
I pulled the pump out of the bottle and found the inlet a bit blocked with slimey build up  :-/ I then found that the rubber mount the pump fits in too is actually a filter which was also blocked partialyso had that out and cleaned it .
Another thing I found out was that there is a low level warning sensor in the side of the bottle which was not working so pulled this out too cleaned it up gave it a tap or too and it started working again suspect the contacts had stuck .
While the pump and switch were out I flushed the bottle with clean water to remove anything left in there .
Put it all back together and refilled .
I added half of a sterilising tablet in to the bottle to give it a bit of a clean .
Result the washer jets seem much stronger and hopefully wont keep blocking up ,oh and the nasty smell  has gone too  :y

Omega General Help / Climate control
« on: 10 October 2008, 16:29:58 »
Brace yourselves another stupid question coming up  :-[
I am not even sure if it is a problem really, I have a 98 miniface lift CDX which has the climate control .
With the climate set to its lowest setting LO and in auto mode cold air blows from all vents like a goodun ,this where I make an arse of myself  :D.
If I then leave the climate in auto and change the setting to the highest setting HI there is not the same output of air from the vents in fact it hardly seems to come from the center vent and the side vents but heat is getting in to the car .
I can hear the main fan running still to . If I then take the climate off auto and run the fan at speed 9 and select flow direction ie face or feet or screen it blows out like a goodun again .
Question is do I have a problem or is this normal  ::)

Omega General Help / Chilled glove box
« on: 10 October 2008, 17:02:34 »
I know Lizzie zoom was chatting about this a while ago, I have just done this to mine it is actually fairly easy to do if you can find the parts , I found a car in the scrappy the other day with it fitted and liberated it .
The worst bit is taking the glove box out really but even thats not bad once you know were all the screws are  :y
My glovebox had the knock out for the pipe and slide already there so I would assume most do . there is a single rubber pipe from the glove box that fits on to a spigot on the blower unit on my car this was simply blanked off with a rubber cap .
I removed this and fitted the pipe in place not quiet as simple as it sounds  ;) just a bit awkward getting to it , I did just use some glue on the rubber to make sure it stayed put .Put the glove box back in position and it works ok  :y

Omega General Help / TEMP GAUGE AND TC LIGHTS STILL
« on: 22 September 2008, 18:10:37 »
I am still having problems with these two items .
The first thing that happens is the temp gauge suddenly decides to go from normal operating temp up in to the red very quickly this causes the high temp warning to come on followed by the TC light the car appears to run ok when this happens , althought the idle speed does seem to get a bit rough .
Stopping the car and restarting it sometimes cures the problem sometimes for days or just a few minutes .
It has also started to not want to restart when turned off and back on .
I did check the fault codes and it came up with 49 and no others besdes 12 and 31 which I know should be there.
I checked the out from the alternator and it was ok , but saying that on Saturday night coming home the headlights were really dim and I knew there was no output from the alternator then it must have got a jolt and the output came back on the lights came back up to full brightness .
Sunday the car started ok on the battery but after 15 miles with just the radio on and a quick stop the battery was dead .
Called out AA and found no output from battery he put a charged battery on and follwed me home . the car was ok .
The battery has been charged up off the car and seems ok and the temp gauge seems to be behaving . The alternator is putting out 13.50 V and holds it onload  .
I am thinking the alternator is on its way out its done 130000 miles .
I am just thinking if the alternator playing up could be causing the other problems any ideas anyone please

Omega General Help / Multirams
« on: 11 September 2008, 11:00:35 »
Whilst having the cam belt changed and checking afterwards it was found there was a problem with the multirams not operating.
Timbuk found a hole in the supply pipe to the vac tank which was sorted and the front ram now works ok .
But the rear one is not moving if the vac pipe is attached directly to the actuator the valve moves (opens and closes ) would this suggest that the solonoid has failed its self  :question
