Title: Xenon lights levelling motor arm (quick question)
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 02 September 2009, 06:23:23
On the xenon lights motor there is a plastic lever which has a ball on the end. This goes into the headlamp. Question is, is it supposed to lock into the back of the plastic part within the light?

Other question is how exactly does the levelling work? does the plastic arm pull and push the light mechanism or does it fall back due to gravity as the plastic motor arm retracts?

Yes, it locks into the plastic arm so it can move the light beam up and down depending on the load.

The sensors on the suspension tell the control unit how much to move the motors. Without the ball locked in, the headlamp internals just move freely and you dont get any adjustment.

Mine has just failed its MOT because of headlamp beam adjustment.  I had fitted two new motors to replace ones that had rusted up.  Trouble was, they didn't locate properly to internals and the beam ended up pointing too high.  Quick trip to local garage and they were re-fitted correctly and beam brought to correct level.
