Omega General Help / VX Condenser prices
« on: 23 February 2010, 16:24:19 »
Does anyone know the price roughly of an a/c condenser? I've been quoted £560 here. :o :o ;D

Other question is the condenser and drier is available on ebay for around £150. I don't suppose anyone has any experience of transporting a condenser on a plane? Done headlights and foglights before.

One last question, how would you know if it your evaporator that has failed? Or is that unlikely?

Thank you.

Omega General Help / Possible leaking condenser
« on: 13 February 2010, 17:16:14 »
Late last year, my a/c leaked (again). The dealer said that he couldn't find a leak, so both Tunnie and the dealer suggested it was probably the condenser.

So this time the gas lasted about 6 weeks or so, therefore is it worth just proceeding to having the condenser replaced or should I revert back to the dealer? They did put a tracer dye in the system so should they be able to find it?

Omega General Help / Removing the doughnut bush
« on: 13 February 2010, 14:32:09 »
My mechanic made a big issue over removing the doughnut bush. He made out it is massive job getting access.

I have read the maintenance guide and as I understand all you do is jack up car and support the trailing arm. One side at a time. Is my intrepretation correct? Is there anything else I could suggest?

Omega General Help / Cam cover gasket questions
« on: 18 January 2010, 15:47:58 »
Despite having my cam cover gaskets done last year it appears they have gone again and are the cause of my oil leakage.

I stuck my hand around the back of the cam cover and there was definately dirty oil there, which is probably the cause. Is this a common place for the leak? I seem to recall either Entwood or Martin Imber, saying that it runs doen the back and drips off the auto box. Apologies if it wasn't.

I've also noticed oil on top of the trumpet which comes out of the throttle. However, I did clean the breathers and had the cam covers changed after I cleaned the breathers. Any ideas whats happended here.

Lastly, a bit of a subjective question, but how easy is it to change the cam cover gaskets yourself? Can you do it individually or should you have a mate? or be the mate?  ;D

And how long would it take and what can go wrong being a novice?
Sorry for all the questions.

In the maintenance guide, a couple of pictures appear to show lids on the doughnut bushes. Do you have to buy the lid as well?

fitting wise the voids point to the front and back of the car and solid bits to the sides. Then does one cut out slot point to the front or two? or doesn't that bit matter?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Still wandering
« on: 04 January 2010, 16:56:40 »
I have changed the link rods, steering idler and the shock absorbers and mounts. I thought the wandering was due to the steering idler but it is not. Is it worth changing the wishbones over? I changed the bushes last year, but could the ball joint be on the way out despite looking ok?

Also gave the track rod ends a good tug but they don't move. So other than the wishbones can it be anything else. Tyres are Continental 245 wide.

Omega General Help / How often should you wax?
« on: 02 January 2010, 18:51:44 »
When water stops beading up on your paintwork, it is time to start waxing. How often should you wax and is it possible to reinstate the water beading property?

Is it possible to have an A/C leak behind the dashboard?

This is something a mechanic has suggested.

Omega General Help / Still suffering from clunking noise over bumps
« on: 27 December 2009, 09:57:43 »
I'm still suffering from cluncking noises when going over bumps and a bit of tramlining. The clunking noise is passenger side only.

I've changed the steering idler, link rods (b/s) and shock absorbers. Last year I changed the wishbone bushes - 2 bushes (b/s).

I have noticed though if I have a passenger in the car the clunking noise goes down. The track rods seem ok, there is only a bit of rotational movement in them, not up and down.

Tyres are Continental.

What should I change now?

Omega General Help / Shock absorber mounts
« on: 29 December 2009, 16:05:53 »
I think we've got to the bottom of my clunking / knocking noise. We reckon it's the shock absorber mounts. They did look a bit shot to me but the mechanic at that time thought it was OK.

Anyway, we tightened the bolt at the top of the strut and the noise has gone down a bit.  :y. Checked out the lower ball joint and anti roll bar but these seem OK.

Just wondering whether worn shock absorber mounts are responsible for vagueness in the steering? Will find out soon anyway.

But where is the best place to get shock absorber mounts from and would anyone have a part number please. (SWMBO is in the UK at the moment so she could collect and bring over).

Many thanks.

Omega General Help / Heater matrix
« on: 24 December 2009, 18:53:00 »
If your windows don't mist up with ECO on and you're not losing coolant, and your car warms up; does this mean that your heater matrix is ok?

How long do these things last anyway?

Omega General Help / A/C woes
« on: 23 December 2009, 15:14:15 »
Previously I reported that my a/c was blowing warm, ie not working and with possible condenser failure. Well got my car back today with the A/C regassed and the a/c is blowing nice and cold. The dealer said that they could not actually find a leak. Nevertheless they put more tracer dye into the system to see if it leaks again. So I don't know, possibly the condenser might not be defective. But if it was defective any leaks would show up with the dye would it not?

Omega General Help / HID adjuster arm and sensor
« on: 16 December 2009, 18:49:58 »
Changed the link rods and steering idler the other day and noticed that I have only one HID adjuster on the drivers side. Is this correct or should there be two?

Omega General Help / Drop link knocking / clunking sound
« on: 13 December 2009, 13:25:44 »
I had a clunking / knocking sound every time I was going over a bump. Changed the drop links yesterday as one of them was bent, but I've noticed the sound is still present. Is it possible that I've damaged the parts that causes the knocking sound permanetly?

The links went in easily enough, and was wondering whether the reciving holes should really need encouraging to come together.

Thanks
