........
I had to have a full strip back on all of mine though as the lacquer was flaking ..........

On that subject, there's some stuff on the market called 'Wonder Wheels'. It's been about for many years and is aptly named, because after you've used it you 'Wonder' where your lacquer has gone.  ::)
Good for cleaning the patio though.  :y
I would suspect that the shit the Koso's use on the rare occasions it gets close to a sponge is neat acid ;D

Pristine Alloy Wheel Refurbishers Ltd in Milton Keynes do an excellent job back to factory finish / profile whether powder coated or diamond cut. They redid all my 6 spoke alloys on my 2003 Elite - not because they had kerb damage, but they were flaking in the inside edge due to alloy corrosion. Did a brilliant job. They collected the wheels too and returned them when finished at around £85 a wheel.
They used to do all the 'proper' refurbs (not the cheap crap wheel cover ups) for my local Audi dealership and did my Omega wheels for me booked through Audi.
Demon Wheels in Preston do a first class job too, reprofiling to original if kerbed and a perfect colour match to the original at around £90 per wheel.
Good wheel refurbishers are everywhere now, but I would go off recommendation or go and see some of their work and the set up first.
You get what you pay for - a cheap 'man in a van' job or a proper back to original finish.

Pristine Alloy Wheel Refurbishers Ltd in Milton Keynes
They were the ones that wanted £200 on one of my Jag wheels.

Must have spoken to the 'wrong' person or they didn't to do the job. Usually the case with sky high quotes.

It was my usual contact there - I work nearby, and wreck wheels at an alarming rate.  But when I queried when it was £200 rather than the usual £40-£50, and their response was because it was a 20" wheel.  But I get the feeling it was they didn't what to do it.  It needed a flat spot rolled out, which they have done countless times for me before, seeing as TBE runs on chocolate Irmscher Sportstars.

As an extra £150-£160 seems excessive just because the wheel size increased from 18" to 20".

Wheel Works would want £408 all in to do all four in a day if you take the car in...  :-X

Yeah, no idea why Pristine were being such arses.  Although in the last 5 years or so, they have been up their own arses.

As long as the wheels don't need repairing, and I can take just the wheels, I do know of somewhere quite reasonable that did the wheels on the Silver Bullet for a very good price and made a great job :)

Obviously if you can do without the wheels for a spell, then the price drops accordingly ;)

Yeah, exactly :)

The hassle is finding a way to keep a car lifted off the ground without wheels on.  I'm not comfortable enough with stands for that, esp given JLR's warnings about ensuring it stays flat when being lifted.

The place you are talking of does carry out some repairs.  :y

For info, one of the main causes of alloy corrosion is high iron content brake pads...........

The problem with that is knowing which pads do and which don't have high iron content. It's not like they have food type labels on them!

You have to research it a bit, by default all the cheap stuff does have a high iron content (it is cheaper to make and reduces brake squeal), you have to find them with a high ceramic content instead (some sites do mention the pad composition).

Obviously the ones I've taken down there - and Irmscher Sportstar flat spotted due to a pothole, and a Jag one, also flatspotted due to a pothole - must have been a bit too much for what they were prepared to do.

Pristine were happy to do the Irmscher, but suspect purposely priced out the Jag one possibly because it was too bad....   ...though to me the Irmscher one was the one I thought would be unrepairable ;D
