Had a new battery on the 4x4 about a week ago , visited some friends in Norfolk over the weekend on the way home the battery warning light illuminated stopped checked belt all in order & connections all secure but noticed a hot electric smell my guess alternator ,  got home ok light on all the way. Had the alternator checked only pushing out 9 volts , new part genuine Hyundai with 2 year warranty £510.00 on the bay £518.00 Inc p&p. I really like to stick with genuine parts but ECP supplied exchange for £176.00 with 12 months warranty so took a chance, all fitted now producing 14.3 volts so fingers crossed now.

I presume this is with the engine running.

Almost exactly what my car shows when I strap a £2 Ebay voltage meter across the battery terminals.

Its alright replacing one part but the rest is still old and worn, at least now there's a 12 mth guarantee to instil peace of mind

Agreed. And there's the time saving of not having to diagnose the internal fault, then buy and fit the parts.

Couldn't afford to lose the car for any length of time at all really, so went for the best option available to me car was only off the road for a couple of hours, I know I have the Merc as well but try not to use it in this mucky weather. The Mechanic I use charged me £60.00 labour so not too bad he did the job in my garage too involved for me to attempt I'm afraid.😉
