Title: Water leak in to car.
Post by: Pete Elite on 15 March 2009, 20:05:08
Hi,
I have water leaking on to the air vent on the top right hand side of the dashboard :-?.

It's then running down the face of the vent and light switch below and then on to the carpet :(.

Has anyone had a leak in this position before as it seems an odd place and i can't find any problem with the door rubber seal :question.

         Thanks,
                    Pete.

So is the water coming from above, like from the headlining or the A post trim ?

Sounds like the windsreen seal or sun roof if thats the case.  There should be drain tubes in the corners of the sunroof, but they would run to the outside of the car, if they are blocked then the water takes the easiest root.

And is the door seal torn ?

I've checked the headlining(dry) and the door rubber(perfect) but will check the sunroof drain holes tomorrow.

The water is obviously coming from above the dash as it's in the top vent on the right of the dashboard but can't see anywhere it could possibly be coming from, bl**dy mystery ::).

Mite sound daft but is the drain hole under the bonnet on the right clear...Only it sound like the heater mite be pulling the water in from the engine bay because of a blocked drain hole i had this once put mine was the rear passenger foot well i found it was because the drain was blocked under the pollen filter and it was being pushed in under the seat.
Good luck mate. :y

Trickle some water down the sunroof holes, handy to have a thin welding rod handy to give it a poke if it doesnt clear.

Best thing I've found for drains like the sunroof is the stretchy white plastic covered coil stuff that the missus uses to hold up net curtains in the house...  Get a spare length of that, insert a hook at one end and put a screwdriver through it.

Rotate and gently push at the same time seems to dislodge most of the crud buildup and clear the drain hole.......   :)

Amended to say - screwdriver through the hook end, using same as a leer.  Don't put the hook end down the hole otherwise you could end up with a very big 'hole' afterwards...

Ooooohh Matron!!   :o
