Omega General Help / Re: braking issues
« on: 17 October 2007, 21:11:24 »
the other problem that can cause warping is braking from high speed to a standstill and then keeping your foot on the brake - autos tend to be more susceptible to this as the only other way of holding the car stationary after stopping is the handbrake ...

I tend to use the key if I need to use total closure, as it kills the fob batteries via remote...
... not if you've fitted a total closure kit  ;)

the boot lock on my first omega (pre-facelift) wouldn't turn at all using the key ... I ended up removing the lock assembly and giving it a good few squirts of white lithium grease, then wiggled the key in the lock a bit and it worked fine after that - must have seized through lack of use.

Give that a go first before swapping locks ...

Omega General Help / Re: Please please please help me fix...

hmmm I seem to remember something along these lines a while ago and it turned out to be the main vacuum pipe from the servo was worn and therefore not generating enough vacuum .... ?????

sounds like manifold gasket - a common problem - had the same on my first (T-reg) omega ... never did bother me enough to fix it before selling though  ::)

yes, you need to use a splitter ... personally I'd recommend one of these :

alternatively, you can use the "fork type" splitter like this :

but believe me when I say that the top one is MUCH easier for that job ...

if it idles for a while then seemingly randomly cuts out - possible crank sensor failure as that's exactly what happened on mine ...

Omega General Help / Re: Is it True ?

when the crank sensor (or more to the point, it's wiring) started going on my last omega, I had at least one instance where I was slowing down in traffic and as I came to a halt, so did the engine!! (it was an automatic) - it wouldn't start again straight away but was OK after a few seconds. After that it did become more difficult to start, in addition if you drove, parked up then started and left the engine idling, it would sometimes cut out - you could restart it again but sometimes only after a minute or two. Come to think of it, I think the engine management claimed there was a problem with the MAF sensor too.

Replacing the (crank) sensor cured all those problems.

Omega General Help / Re: headlights change, recommendations?
« on: 26 September 2007, 13:13:23 »
possibly worth taking the headlight unit apart, the adjusters consist of a metal thread that screws into a plastic part which the back of the reflector then clips onto - over time the plastic part gets brittle and shatters ... I had that on one of the headlights on my old omega. Used superglue to hold the surfaces of the bits together, then epoxy resin around the outside to provide support - worked fine and a damn sight cheaper than new headlights  ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Traction control.
« on: 26 September 2007, 21:38:51 »
even when it's supposedly off it isn't ... if you push it round a bend it'll still cut in ... it just raises the threshold that it kicks in at - but enough to have some fun  ;)

take the HT leads out on the nearside bank, you may find the spark plug holes full of oil (I had that on my first omega ...)

I seem to remember reading that they were only ever fitted to a (late) variant of the 2.5TD, possibly only available abroad ...

Omega General Help / Re: Sunroof Programming
« on: 27 August 2007, 13:27:54 »
well on my current miggy it too had a troublesome sunroof - having to hold in the button to close even with carrying out the "calibration" procedure in the owner's book. Initially I thought it might have been the runners but after greasing those, the problem came back again in a matter of days.

Turned out to be the grease inside the gearbox had solidified (probably through lack of use by the previous owners). So much so that when I seperated the motor from the gearbox and removed the gears that drive the brass gear that engages with the belt which moves the roof, the brass gear couldn't be turned by hand at all !!

After cleaning up and lubricating with white lithium grease, I've had no more problems with it whatsoever.

However, there's a bit of a "gotcha" ... what I found was that when reconnecting the power to the motor, it moved forwards and back again a bit ... but not the same amount - so the roof wasn't at the right level any longer.

Eventually I solved this by:

refit the motor minus its' power cable
turn the gear manually using a large screwdriver until the roof is in the correct position
remove motor
reconnect cable to motor, push button in so that it runs through its' adjustment
refit motor to sunroof

... easy when you know how  ::)
